911 engine conversion

  1. Simply put ,what would the cost be of this conversion be .The 3.0 is around 200 bhp
and the 3.3 about 230 ish.
Fuel injection OR carbs, engine bay mods ,wiring looms etc.
I absolutely love my camper BUT I AM FOREVER ON THE THROTTLE .Even smallish hills result in the family getting out to push --- or just running ahead to wait for me.
My engine is a good engine ,type 4 1700 -- twin 40s , mild cam etc but in the modern traffic it sometimes gets frustrating.
Ive thought about a rebuild to about 2.3 or so on the type 4 to a good reliable 120 bhp or so but i keep thinking what it would be like to just have the real go of the porsche
    conversion.
Type 4 souped up or Porsche 911 ,the pros and cons and reliability .
    GOOD advise is really wanted.

  2. 200 hp in a 1970s delivery van chassis

Apart from that, they bolt straight in.

  3. I refuse to say it....

120 bhp type 4 engine will be £5k plus.
Porker conversion will be considerably more I'd think.

  6. If you really want to chuck some money on something thats modern and practical and will cruise at modern motorway speeds and deliver good mpg the for around 51/2 k you can drive in and out with a full scoobie conversion.

Other than that if you want to stay air cooled a well fettled 17 isnt that bad. If yours is really that bad then its probably fubarred! You could go down the 2 litre route. A purpose built and not too trick will do most of what you probably want but wont return the mpg of a modern engine.

  7. scooby doo......?

  13. Its big money. there are better options.

  14. For the money it would cost for the conversion i would get your engine stroked then look into throttle bodies
Jenvy now are doing a throttle body kit for aircooled engines im led to belive

The most cost effective bhp per £ would be a subaru conversion though if you dont mind watercooled

Before you spend big bucks have your present set up checked over and set up on a rolling road you may be suprised at the change

  16. not interested in a scooby, air cooled it has to be.Really -- if it was as simple as 4 bolts!!
Would the gearbox have to be used or would the type 4 box do etc .
Has anyone had this done on here or is it just too big a headache.
Roundabout cost if anyone knows , i know there are lots of variables so its not possible to be exact -- general ideas.
Souped up type 4 or Porsche. Reliability ,fun.
If i decide on one or the other it will happen when it goes off the road at end of September so plenty of time to choose.
    Keep it all coming please

  17. Its not that its Fubarred but more like its 70s ,its a good reliable motor [fully rebuilt 1300 mls] but i am always on the gears and throttle and my thinking is that i would get MORE mpg because i would do less cog swaps and defo be off the throttle until i had the need for speed .

  18. Supercharged type 4 stroker on throttle bodies and aftermarket ecu

That would make more power than the porsche conversion and be easily upgradable for future improvements

I personally wouldent want that much power in a road going stock bus though

  19. Where would i look to getting this done Paradox.I am not a engineer or anything close to being able to understand it ,
stroker is i think is longer crank to give bigger capacity etc .Throttle boddies are injection i think
£10,000 maybe for a porsche conversion if i sell the wife but £20,000 is way too much and i would have to sell the kids as well.
Anybody need a new kidney-- i have a spare.
