  1. Yes, full googles and hooded top that you can pull tight.

Thanks all, as usual, better informed than I was, I'm going to buy the Gerson mentioned above as I've checked with the manufacturer and they dont do A1,B1 filters for the set up my mate lent to me.

Might be worth checking that your 2k spray cans do actually contain isocyanates. :)

Google, suit and now correct mask all sorted :)

  5. Where did you get a suit? That's the better solution, I think.

  6. The ones from my local factors do and come with a lecture too, quite rightly so.

So my suit was going to be my overalls and the disposable paint suit over that. Fully sealed goggles to protect eyes.

However @Zed strikes again and my 2k paint does not contain isocyanates.....doh. I called the paint shop and as it is a made up HGM 2k rattle can, it is OK. Do Icompletely trust the advise......sort off but I'm still going to buy the mask mentioned above as the high build primer has more warning signs on the can (Acetone and Xylene) than the 2K. I'm glad I don't mind looking like an idiot as I know more now!;)

  8. That's odd, my cans definitely say they do. Are you sure they haven't sold you stuff that is air dry converted 2K?

My experience with those is the finish is not at all robust :(

This is a picture of the can, I'm not sure how to tell. The shop comes highly recommended, but I'm new at this painting lark.

I just called HMG and they confirm that none of their paints contain Isocyanates any more and specifically, the one I bought does not.

(@F_Pantos) Andrew, whether or not mine gives me a durable surface....?

  11. Does it contain an activator? A trigger on the can's bum?

Its bum is smooth and shiny;) no activator, just a bog standard rattle can.

  13. Well, not 2k then.

Apologies for bearing bad news, if it's a small area, you might be ok, but of it's like the air dry converted stuff I've used in the past, it's not heat, oil or petrol proof :(

One question leads to another and I have finally got to the bottom. The paint in the rattle can is an air-dried converted 2K that does not have isocyanate but as mentioned may or may not be durable. The shop and manufacture say it is the finished shiny coat and should be OK. Only one way to find out...you should be able to see the result at TE...but no testing with petrol rags please! ;)

  15. Have you sprayed before?

If not then I'd get a price from your local first, and an idea as to what standard they consider a blow over to be.

  16. I would do a test piece first and save your efforts, it's worse if you have to strip it back if it's like the stuff I got in the past :(

I have used similar can based 2K and it is still OK after a year or more.
It doesnt behave well while it still has solvent in it, blistering with heat for instance on the rear valance , but once the solvent has cleared it seems hard enough. Like the blisters happened then it stopped. Some of that was going too thick too fast.

Not as bad as Hammerite/Rustoleum where you can sometimes strip it with a pressure washer after a month if you put it on too thickly.

It seems not to go dull like Halfords cellulose rattle cans.

  18. I've got full face gas mask single filter type, with filter removed and an external divers bell style 15 meter hose with a blower motor mounted outside.
Air's drawn in from outside and the mask is always over pressurised.
Hose does not get in the way once your used to it.
