  1. Hi Moons, have you found some bigger tyres for your bus?
I found some 195 80 R14 somewhere, but I can't find them now. Mine are currently 195 75 R14 so it's only about 2-3 percent increase, but they're old and probably need replacing anyway.

i'm a bit perplexed how you think 195 80 14 are "bigger" 195 is the width 80 the height of the wall and 14 the rim size........
standard is 185/14 (80 is standard)
to increase the rolling radius you would have to increase rim size so 185/15 (if they make them) but your speedo would need recalibrating.

  3. Right reading this because I'm new to the vw thing and its my 1st bay I got an auto changed to manual and am I right a 1600 gearbox will drive my 2.0l engine fine just rev higher when on mway at cruise ?? Any help cheers

  4. 80% of 195 is slightly bigger than 75% of 195 so the overall wheel+tyre diameter is slightly bigger. The speedo is in kph anyway, so I use a satnav.

Yep that's about it, that's the set up I've got. Quick off the mark and pulls really well up hills.
I might go for bigger wheels one day tho!

  6. speedo drive is on front wheel so only applies if you cahnge all 4 and why would you do that?

  7. Thanks so much I'm just changing from auto what's ur cruise speed and can u get a 228 flywheel in or will a 200 do the job thanks again , allso does the bell house fit a type 4 engine sorry for all questions but was told I had to use cog box £1250 ouch

  8. I used the original 1600 3 rib when i first did my scooby conversion ( 2ltr turbo). Box held up fine even when giving it some but due to the ratios the fuel bill was horrendous which also puts extra strain which equals heat into the equation .. I too couldn't find a 091 bay box for under £600 and ended up taking the plunge and got a t25 dk box which i took to Bears motorsport and had the nose cone changed all new bearings and seals and most importantly third and forth changed fo they're inline with the scooby box statistics..
Due to a change in circumstances ( and the engine dying) ive changed direction and am now going diesel as i need this to be a daily.. which the box isn't geared for and thus for sale...
It's on here, yes it's a fair chunk of cash, but your getting the strongest case vw built freshly built box suited for the engine...

    cheers

76 on gearbox fits 228 flywheel, you need to remove the needle roller bearing from the end of the crankshaft and get the flywheel machined to press a new one into the centre to support the gearbox output shaft, cost about £10,
bell housing fine, no need to change starter motor either.
I rarely go over 60, prefer to use A roads in the bus, motorways always seem to be at a standstill these days.
