Of course it's super easy if you start off with all the bus bits, transfer to the CU and make a few repairs as you go and the adjustments to make it work.
Starting "blind" as you are, you have some homework to do and that thread has lots of great info.

Another pertinent question would be what gearbox have you got?

  2. Well thanks to all you folks, I,m not blind any more;)
Lots of homework right enough, but lots of time to, as I am in no rush.
On the gearbox question, i cant answer that at the moment. My lift has a 67 squareback parked on it that has lots of new panels clipped in place on the front to be welded. So thats my next job before I put the kombi up there to check the gearbox.

  3. I have to weld up this before I can get access to the lift for the kombi. DSCF4943.JPG

  5. Sure we have to be busy at something. Idle hands do the devils work dontcha know:) DSCF5010.JPG

  6. Just on the question of heat exchangers and the engine is on the bay, is it safe to assume that bay heat exchangers are already on it. Because if T25 exchangers were on it, they would be too long.Thanks.

If you could get more pictures of your engine and engine bay under and over we’d have a better idea.
I wouldn’t assume anything, it’s got T25 fan housing and other stuff has been chopped off so who knows!

  9. Brilliant , I can do that today no problem. Thanks for the help.

  10. This is the head that was replaced with a new head due to a cross threaded spark plug. I know it was the only thing replaced. I will get a pic from below later on. DSCF5207.JPG

  11. Looks like a T 25 heat exchanger to my untrained eye, but I bow to you guys wisdom on that one.

    Definitely.

  13. How did they get it in, if a T25 is too long. I presume that at the tailgate end there is a metal lip, that was persuaded to move with a bit of blunt force trauma to make allowance.

Next time you're there, could you take some pictures of the engine bar/chassis mountings?
Should be like this for a bay...

Something like that. If you had a pukka bay window installation, they certainly clash with something, it's why T25 used ones are cheaper on Ebay than T2 ones.

I'd take a pic, but mine doesn't have a stock silencer fitted. The stock one tucks in so much closer to the engine that it has a big dent in it to accommodate the oil filler.

  18. Thanks Flakey, those pics are worth a thousand words for sure. Takes away a lot of the guesswork for me, My own pics show a bit more of the metal bashing that went on at the tail gate end of the engine bay. But nothing that cant be put right given time and patience. Thanks chaps you are all a veritable mine of information,
