yes after the drive output in effect - at least it was on my landy - another little gear set up to increase the drive output from the output shaft to the driveshaft

  7. That's helpful, thanks fella. Can you just flick the switch or do you have to dip the clutch too?

to be fair i think it's just a electric solenoid so probably no clutch, only use 3rd and 4th, usually it will flick out of o/d if you forget or change down i think

  13. The overdrive is a separate gearbox which sits between gearbox and prop shaft. The overdrive, when switched in gives an extra 25% MPH for the same revs.

Its a complicated beast operated through a relay and actuating solenoid and gearbox switches. Its a lot of kit for a marginal benefit.

I find the best oil for the engine is Castrol 20W50 and the gearbox and overdrive are also filled with the 20W50. Do not use gear oil we use in our vans for the mgb gearboxes.

I suggest getting a manual for the car and doing an oil and filter change so you know its done.

  15. thats awesome, cheers!
I'll be changing all the fluids and making sure everything is new before I attempt to fire it up. Going to try and turn it over by hand first too.

  16. You have mentioned chrome bumper conversion. Personally I wouldn't do that. What you have is a very nice example of a rubber bumper car. I think you should just spend a little initially on some basic servicing and then drive it a lot and get to know it. Its a great car as it is.

  17. you don't have to dip clutch for the overdrive, just flick the switch on/off when you need it

  19. Forgot to mention, the rear axle needs filling with gear oil, you will need a large allen key for the drain and filler plug. If you get a manual, its all in there. Its a simple car to look after. I am very oap now and I look after my mgb myself.

just ask if you want to know anything about the car. ps. post a pic of the engine bay.
