Can anyone send me a link to any videos showing how to drop the engines and box on a T2 van please? cheers
Apparently (according to the Google Mechanic), it's only four bolts As @Zed said - more details will give you the correct answer
Looked at YouTube but couldn’t see anything for my year engine and I want to take the box out at the same time and the only video I could find was showing how to separate the engine and box???
It's not complicated and it's detailed step by step in Haynes. I can't imagine how a video would make it easier. No disrespect intended by this question, I'm genuinely interested - how old are you?
I don’t have Haynes and not sure I can even be bothered answering your completely disrespectful question regarding my age Sorry if I haven’t been dropping engines all my life and needed the experience of the readers of these forums Maybe better if you don’t want to help somebody just ignore them instead of being a cheeky chap
Perhaps you missed the “ no disrespect intended “ ? I’m pretty old and age does , I believe ,become one of the factors in tackling this job. 30 years ago I was able to support weights etc that I wouldn’t even consider now.
Lol, he did actually help by stating it's detailed in Haynes. Maybe grab one. It'll be proper helpful for lots of future bus jobs. Assuming you can read that is and don't need video. Not being disrespectful, some people genuinely struggle with written instruction...
Just Kampers have some how to videos not sure if they have a bus one but the beetle engine removal is almost the same except for the engine support bar. I took my type one out and it’s is pretty simply and then changed the box to a six rib again pretty simple so go for it then if you get stuck ask as you go. Unless someone on here is local to and willing to lend a hand of course.
It's just that I'm old, I read manuals. My kids are younger (obviously) and their first port of call is instruction videos. So I wondered. Nothing cheeky, you decided that and reacting by calling me a c*** is pathetic. I hope your engine falls on your head and knocks some manners into you.
Should have known by the pride you take in gradually getting grumpier Just remind yourself that any comment you need to start with “not being disrespectful” generally means you’re about to be exactly that And hopefully I won’t have my head below the engine if I ever find out how to remove it so you hopefully won’t get your wish come true Like I said if you didn’t want to help just ignore the post and concentrate on getting grumpier without being disrespectful to somebody who is only trying to do work that I would normally pay a mechanic to do
I was helping. Can't beat Haynes for clear simple instructions. Oh well. If I'd just said "How old are you?" now that would definitely have been read as a direct insult? I think you'd have burst a blood vessel and I might have too, so, I tried to avoid that scenario but you still managed it. Dunno why people are so hung up on their age. Lastly, I have tens of thousands of posts on here all helping people trying to avoid paying a garage - it's what I do here.
Perhaps best to pay a mechanic rather than perfunctorily being rude to somebody who was trying to assist. To start a reply with “ not being disrespectful “ means exactly that unless the reply then shows disrespect. It didn’t . Perhaps you may wish to consider your reaction, I am sure that all involved would welcome that and assist you as best they can.
It's all gravy, it's easy to misinterpret the written word. I'm not offended and nowhere near as grumpy as @Lasty.
In the spirit of being helpful... Unless you have an prototype bay or a late bay with a type-4 engine, it's much easier to take the engine and box out separately. Neither are heavy so if you want to join them back together out of the bus to keep the poop out of the clutch housing or whatever it literally is 4 bolts and no struggle at all.
WhenI first joined this forum I posted something that a subsequent poster had clearly not read. I made a comment which, whilst factual wasn’t taken particularly well. I was new to forums, I apologised ( I think ) and things moved on.
Looking back my first post was a bit short, there's nothing for either of us to apologise for that I can see. Onwards and upwards.
