Well, i haven't updated this in a while so here we go, apologies if i have missed any photos but I've tried to dig them out as best as i could.
Hey all I've been a bit quiet recently. With a move to Yorkshire and new job and weekly bay maintenance I have forgot to post in a while. This week's fun has been replacing all the flexi / brake pipes along with backing plates. Still the other side to go and replace the slave cylinders this coming week now the days a lighter. I expected this part of bay ownership after finish the body all the perished items and mechanics comes now. Had a few issues of fuel entering the engine from the 32/36 progressive Webber , fuel pressure was far to high at 3.5psi bit of tweaking and lowered it to 2.5psi seems to be running alot better, once I can afford them duel solex's will be going on as VW intended. Also forgot, after a good 5 months of debating one of the cheaper Chinese diesel heaters I took the plunge at £110 for the 2kw unit. Originally I was going to fit it under the van but due to the space required it just wouldn't fit after lowering the bay the month before. I've plumbed it into an old washer bottle I have placed up front and mounted the fuel pump in a watertight junction box on rubber Bobby pins. The heat this thing kicks out is amazing. Fuel guage sender replaced today. After running out of fuel a few months ago, I emptied the tank of 15L alot more than in expected. I think the old one has had it, fins of the metal strip look worn with large gaps, also noticed the old one wasn't seated properly, so that might of been the reason for the random fuel smell. Plan for the weekend is replace all the fuel lines and fit a 12v fuel cut off solenoid. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
Today's little job, wiring up the reverse lights. Stupidly I bought the just kampers reverse light kit and all I needed was the wire totally forgot I had the bulb holders and the switch was fine. Ow well I needed the bulbs and spares are always a good thing. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
Some great progress today, feel like something was accomplished. Changed out the old and beginning to perish pushrod tubes at £75 , they sure know how to charge. While I was at it thought I would check the tappets, to begin with they were tighter than a ducks arse, a quick tune up and it's running better than it ever has. Alongside that i tweaked the progressive Webber a bit, lowered the idle and fuel PSI according to the docs it should not be run at 3PSI knocked it down to 2.5 for now but it seems to run ok on 2, so I will play with that a bit more, I think the high PSI was the cause of my fuel leak once the engine was turned off due to residual pressure. Also fitted a fuel cut off, great little bit of kit for piece of mind I guess. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
Time to reinstate the horrific gear selector. Look at the state of the gearbox coupler, got a new urethane empi unit. And new bushes. Took it all apart tonight, lick of paint on the selector rod and hopefully back in on Friday. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
