I misread my spreadsheet/wrote it down wrong!! 1800 heads came with either 41mm or 39.3mm inlets... exhaust is 34mm 1700 - 39.3x33mm 2l - 37.5x33mm I'll go sit in the corner now
Started cleaning up one of the heads today, until I spotted this. Big chunk broken off. It should look like this. I'm thinking maybe make up a piece of Ali that can then be welded back in. Has anyone done a similar repair, or is it destined for the scrap bin?
I expect it would be sort of ok without it, but not ideal. Looks like someone whacked it off with a hammer? There's a lot of oil about for an exhaust port, wre there holes in the pistons?...
It had crossed my mind to just ignore it. If its only there to add more surface area for cooling then it would be fine. But it's a lot thicker than the other cooling fins, so thought it maybe adding strength as well.
Well that's 2 votes too my wavering 1. As you both know a lot more than me I shall carry on. Thanks zed and Paul.
Fear not dear oscar I shall give you the benefit of all my vast experience. 1. It's an engine 2. It looks bust 3. You need to fix it You're very welcome, I'm happy to help
look at the little end of the rod... is there a rectangular lump on the end of it? If there is, then it's a 17/1800 bottom end, if they're just rounded, then it's a 2l bottom end!!
that looks like it should be a 2l rod 17/1800 ones look like this... Likely as not, the engine has been rebuilt with a 2l bottom end at some point
Bit of advice needed. Trying to undo these three bolts that hold the fan on. My 6mm Allen key bites but as soon as I apply pressure (lots) it slips. A 1/4 key doesn't fit. Sooo... Has anyone got a snazzy tip to get them undone, before I get the drill out? Ps. I don't have a rattle gun.
You need an 8mm multi spline bit... some cv bolts are the same!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M8-Bi-Hex...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a7fc207b2 They used to be known as Multi spline... not sure on the correct name for them now!!
