Got this engine cheap, to hopefully rebuild as a 2056. This is my first time and on a tight budget. So may take a while. I'm bound to have lots of questions along the way and make lots of mistakes, so please be tolerant.
Can I just polish out the damage to the chambers? Should I be worried about this damage where someone has pryed out the seal? Oops! Got a bit heavy handed.
There will be mate. You've had a couple already re the different heads. But the main thing at the moment is wether the case will be usable. I've had a rough measure up of the crank bearing saddles with a vernier, and they seem ok. But I'll check these properly at the weekend. Does the surface look ok to you? They feel smooth to the touch. Also there's what looks like a crack where the lifters sit, but this maybe just a dodgy bit of casting. Ill have to file it back and see what it is. When I get time ill put some descriptions with the pics. If you or anyone else spots anything I should worry about let me know.
nice person who screw drivered out the flywheel oil seal!! As for the heads... that sort of damage isn't uncommon... it'll be something that has managed to get sucked in!! The bearing surfaces in the case look a little worn, but get the case cleaned up and measured first sometimes they show some wear but are still within tolerance!! Pop up a pic of the lifter bore... it might be a casting mark, as I'm pretty sure there are some round there
Just been out and got some pics. I've had a go with some wet and dry, but not got to the bottom of it. There's no sign in the lifter bore. The more I look at it, the more I think it's just part of the casting. But I'll file it back just to be sure. It's the area between the 1st and second follower, looking from the fan end, if that helps.
Update. Managed to measure up one half of the case over the weekend. D&R=diameter and radius. F=form/roundness Slightly over size. Will this have to be align bored? The follower bores These seem ok but not checked what the book says yet. Ground back the dodgy bit on the case and am happy it's just a rough bit of casting.(no pics yet) Both halves are getting a thorough dose of Gunk at the moment. Then ill measure up the other half.
