I think you misunderstood what I said, so my apologies for obviously putting it badly.
We have a site host, but we have to pay for it and the associated IT.
The person (main site sponsor) who funded it has pulled out.
But someone will need to look after the administration of donations if it comes to it.... one lump sum is far easier to deal with than 100+ donations of £10 - or random amounts just coming in on an ad hoc basis.... it needs an organiser. A treasurer. That's what I was trying (badly) to say.

  5. There is an awful lot of administration ... bank accounts and what happens if insufficient funds are raised are two issues.

My local sailing club runs the Hamble Winter Series, a fairly majpr yachting regatta series known world wide.

They lost the headline sponsor , Hamble Yacht Services a while back and so far no business has come forward for a £2500 sponsorship.

The worst previous one was being dumped at a moments notice by Garmin a few years back, after they had committed to years more support.

So they put up the competitors entry fees and the event continues.

To me it’s starting to smell like those that own the forum aren’t that interested in it anymore and if the easy route of a single sponsor isn’t available want to pack it in and use Facebook as a excuse

If the current small sponsors produce enough money to cover the costs I don’t see the problem it’s not that hard to organise this into one pot to pay the fees and yes I would volunteer to help.
If this isn’t enough that lots of people have said they would be will to pay to become patrons/sponsors.

I use Facebook and it’s completely different to a forum and what makes this one work is the banter and multi page discussions along with the mods keeping it gentle you can’t get that on Facebook.

I would have no issue with it working like the Samba where all you really get for paying to support the operation is a badge on your postings.

And maybe instead of handing over all the surplus each year, having an account with a reserve held in it would be able to delay any disaster for even a couple of years..

I thought it was You, Dog and Fish who hold the power to determine if it survives or not.

technically yes me and fish but actually it’s pretty much run by a collective of admin and mods, and that’s changed over the years.
I only own it because I paid £11 to register the name at the start.

But it’s unfair to say I’m not interested or looking for the easy option. If that’s the case I would have closed it when I was being threatened, threatened with court and having photos of my home sent to me.

  16. Perhaps we got crossed wires, but either way, it is now clear that what we need :)

We need what you describe as a treasurer, that's for the status quo to remain. I think it is useful to have that clear, if it took a minor misunderstanding, to get the facts out, then no worries, we're all adults. I had assumed HF was looking, politely, to step back, clearly that's not the case, which is a great outcome, rather HF than me ;)

If not interested is it just a case that you are bored and want to stir it up.

It appears you have options of raising the funds from smaller sponsors and have offers of help if no large sponsor but you still say the forum might have to move to Facebook
