Sliding door cover nearly done, and no I didn’t run out of paint just needs a polish once it’s hardened in front of the radiator!
Another side project started! Been soaking fittings with plus gas for about 6mths, still needed mole grips to remove thumb wheels etc Thinking about stretching it full length to carry my kayaks! Although bus ends up over 2m tall! So wont be able to get in some car parks with it fitted
Decided to just modify what I had .......was only a variant piece anyway, still don’t understand the reason for the hump in engine bay...other than to store tools and screws whilst working on engine!
Cheers......all I’m gonna say is don’t use too much lubricant as it keeps slipping back out! Found that Plus gas is the dogs as it seems to evaporate once the trim is in Also plastic washing line seems quite good for pulling string, apart from the last inch or so
The bottom of my adjuster arm had rusted away and the top worked loose and worn away the face of the fan housing. I replaced the bolt with a tie rod adjuster with the other end fixed to the fan housing. Works well and gets a lot more tension on the belt than the VW system ever had!
decided to create an access panel rather than weld back up...if starting from scratch would of prob put it more central and not cut as far back as rear lip is verry close to internal cross rib hence the minimal fastener edge distance at rear......lucky it’s not going by air! Although was much easier to replace the perished fuel filler hose with ENG still installed Still waiting for my mush head socket bolts to finish!
Yesterday morning on the way to work this happened after cursing and blaming it all on the F.I. Whilst waiting for the tow truck I ordered some Webber twin 40s ! Once home found filter completely blocked with rust dust after prob only 100miles max. Question is now it’s back running are twin 40 really a good upgrade or not, and is F.I likely to mess up sometime soon anyway?
This is a familiar storey.... I thought my old twin solexes were knackered after several roadside stops and trips home on the big yellow taxi!! Replaced with 40s and they went better than the solexes but still broke down. Took it to the local specialist who diagnosed the blocked filter in 2 minutes!! I think a lot of peeps don’t persevere with the FI set up. If I’d have had it on mine to begin with I think I’d have tried upgrading to modern FI instead of carbs. However, you’ll have happy motoring on the 40s... and they have a nice induction growl
Fabrication of my low level special, And proof most old car park 2 meter barriers are actually just over 7’
Found the culprit eventually ......Fuel injection busses have a small slosh tank WITH ONLY ONE 10mm inlet hole at bottom. So after fuel level gets to just under half (below slosh tank height) and the small hole becomes blocked (from layers of old sediment) you can get fuel starvation....but if wait 10 mins for fuel to seep through will run again for 10 mins till it conks out again. Fill back up and runs fine again for few days
