+1 on that one. January is the darkest, coldest, most miserable month of the year, there's no way I'm getting through it without a copious amount of drink
I agree with the comment about decent choices of low/zero alternatives, but they still only sell them in bottles or small cans, so you end up paying twice as much as a normal pint - even though beers less than 1.2% don't incur any alcohol duty/tax.
Nice to support the local pub and enjoy a drink or two but here is the question , Could you actually stop the drink and have a dry January ?? As I guess most of us on this forum are 40 yrs plus and drinking has been part of out lifes from the age of 16 (bottle of cider) onwards .
To be completely honest, no I probably couldn't go a whole month but then the question is why should I A
It would be possible, it would be horrible, but I really don’t want to. I only drink Friday, Saturday and a little on Sunday, this stops me turning into Adrian Childs!
Having stopped drinking seven years ago I struggled with the lack of choice back then, especially as I missed the quantity I used to drink on a night out - easily 9/10 pints of lager. I eventually found this and can highly recommend it. Costs 50p a can in Tesco, but better in bottles if you can find them.
Thanks for the recommend I'll have to try and find this next time I go into Tesco, yesterday I had a bottle of Heineken 0.0%, passable alternative but you are right its expensive. I don't find giving up for January that difficult, a couple of years ago I continued all the way through to May. If we head out from here usually one of us is driving so its not much of a chore.
I've found other countries are ahead of the game - in Spain the range available in supermarkets is far greater than here and even back street bars in Majorca have several stocked.
There are she'd loads of 0% available these days, it's great. Heineken 0 is one of my favourites. Leffe blonde 0 exists, but I haven't tried it yet. My mates like flat tire. Some of the German ones are great: warsteiner, franziskaner. I've tried San Miguel & peroni zeros. I've even had a proper budvar zero. Lots of it comes down to personal taste, but there is something for everyone these days. I'm not meant to drink alcohol, so these zero drinks are great for me
Can't understand the need for low alcohol/ alcohol free beers, if you're not drinking alcohol ie beer, why pretend you are ? Pubs sell plenty of soft drinks and if you are drinking at home, who are you fooling....and more importantly why ?
none of us need anything apart from tap water but we choose to drink other things all the time. I don't understand what you are getting at.
If I went into a pub and fancied a beer, I'd have one ..... if for whatever reason I didn't require alcohol I'd have a coke or lemonade. Why the need for pretend beer, most I have drunk with say the stuffs " not bad " which really means " not that great " . That's my point, the breweries marketing dept. have created a need that isn't required.
