Drove it 220 miles on a return trip to Bristol. It rained and it rained but it looks like changing the spark plugs , cleaning the rotor arm and fitting a different distributor cap fixed a slight misfire pulling away in first or at about 30-35 mph in 4th.
65mph in the rain on the M4 outbound. Passed an incident where somebody in a Golf had demolished about 100 metres of the cables and posts central reservation barrier on the A34 must have been scary being trapped dragging the offside along the barrier unable to stop because the nearside wheel was on grass too.

At 3 pm the barrier was still being fixed. So went via NT Stourhead /A303/A36 for lunch..

Two incidents.. one on the Itchen Toll bridge where the car in front paid double (or our toll) and we got charged for a car...
And the other was while wading a flood that was about 9 inches deep the windscreen fogged up as steam billowed up. And then I had to drive with the handbrake on until the rear brakes boiled dry and started working again.

Got the heavy duty anti roll bar back from the powder coater, so today was the day to get it on.

..... a job that I can take absolutely no responsibility for, apart from occasional holding of stuff and passing of tools.
It’s done. I definitely think Clem handled better on the drive home......, but I could just be romanticising the effort!

Built up the replacement drivers seat this morning.
Put it on the tub to see what it was like to sit on. Answer a lot more secure than the pre 1975 seats. Needs runners swapped over.

Passenger seat just slotted in so thats staying in for good.

  5. Where did you have your roll bar done, Sarah?

  6. Churned and churned on the starter. Eventually some petrol appeared, and he burst into life. Electric pump next year...this is getting tedious.

Failed trying to replace the front lower ball joints Looks like I'll be paying someone to do them - should have checked I had all the tools needed. Don't have a 36mn socket to remove hub nut

Made a nice mess of my finger though, only noticed it once I took my gloves off.[IMG][IMG]

Alex the lovely mechanic down in Ringwood fitted it for me, I’m not sure where he sends stuff for powder coating to be honest (it cost a tenner) but I can ask if you like. I’m going to get the wheels and bumpers done at some point over the winter.... it’s got to be better than my shoddy rustoleum attempt!

  9. Try Wessex Metal Finishers in Salisbury. They did all my powder coating for not that much. Not that far from you!

  12. Hopped into Golf, which announced that one of the headlight bulbs had gone. As I do not not have x-ray vision and fingers like ET, replacing it will likely involve taking the front bumper off, like last time. Gotta love modern cars. Not.

    All work and no Bay.

I haven’t driven my pickup for about 5 weeks :(

Day off today so I put the battery on trickle charge, gave it a general once over and reinflated the tyres.

There was nothing wrong it before, so fingers crossed it’ll start tomorrow morning

Took the cooker out, fitted anti-cat netting, went and fuelled up for the run to Kent tomorrow. Roads should be quieter.

  17. Dived under van to escape Xmas festivities. I may stay under here for a while. Hasn't rotted much since I last looked. I may summon the enthusiasm to do his undersides after Xmas.

  20. To do list:
    - spray load floor with Dynax UB
    - give mouldy sills a lick of Rustoleum
    - run vacuum pipe to front
    - run Ebers fuel pipe to front
    - replace belly pan (after 10 years in garage) after drilling out/retapping holes
    - fit leccy fuel pump

That's enough to be getting on with...
