I may let this cure and then put it back on the van Once the vans all in one colour I can go back over panels and tidy it up a bit. Otherwise If I keep redoing panels I’ll just be chasing my tail. The aim was to get the corrosion treated and get the bodywork sealed up against the weather I’ve achieved that. It’s just bits like this that are annoying
keep at it Para, top job as always I think you have the best idea get all the panels on then sort out the small patches as needed
I couldn’t help myself Yesterday before it was fully dry but had started to skin over. I picked the bits out of it pressed the paint down where the reactions were And rolled over it again It’s not perfect but better than it was so I’m happy to leave it for now.
I need to refurb my quarter light frames Has anyone replaced these rivets and if so how did you go about it?
Somewhere on VW Heritage they list the rivets, they are softish aluminium, they simply peen over but you’ll need to ensure the two halves are squeezed together nice and tight We did our rear window frame t’other week, it’s not that difficult a job to do to be fair
Been aluminium I’d imagine they will peen over using a large pin punch and a hammer? Also this one the rivet seems hollow at the bottom so I’d imagine I’d need a domed punch of some sort
the Pivot hinge has a fibre washer between it , I would clean the original up without splitting it if you can, it’s tricky to get the hinges to work with the new rivets
I machined my own brass hollow pivot pin and just used a ball bearing and a pair of mole grips to splay the bottom out
