My two 100w solar panels are aluminium backed, neither produce much power and I need to somehow get them off the roof but they’re well stuck down with Sikaflex 252i and I’m not looking forward to it.

Despite numerous attempts to contact Eco Worthy either via Amazon or direct on their website they have never responded and if bother to replace the panels it certainly won’t be with any Eco Worthy product.

I tried with the cheese wire slicing through.... but didn’t actually have any cheese wire, so used the strings off my acoustic guitar..... not especially successful at removing the panel, but the neighbours are happy as my guitar is now unplayable.... rather than me just not being very good at playing it!!
A flexible filling knife did the trick in the end. And then a silicone dissolver to clean the remainder up.

  3. Right, all done. Second time springs have been off, and I never want to do it again. Everything lines up as well as anything made by Devon is going to (ie not very well at all). Just got to order some UNC half-nuts. And find a large sheet of oil-tempered hardboard for the roof liner.

@Faust New springs worth having, if you can bear the hassle. Hardly fingertip operation, but a good shove with your hand pops the top straight up. Better than the weird squat-thrust with my head I used to have to do.

Something else to add to the list. My head hurts every time I put the roof up

  5. Kind of worth doing, but it’s a foul job. Worth saving up other roof-related jobs and doing it in one big hit.

  6. Fitted a RH snail fan to heat x hanger hose, trimmed and fitted air trunking to air filter hose secured probably for the first time in its life.

  7. After a week spent dealing with shoddy, ill-fitting Devon sh1te, caressed my Big Eberspächer Knob to remind myself that good quality products still exist...

  8. Took it for a little run around for the first time since Tatton in August.
Should have put some more air in the tyres as it handled like it was on ice and the choke was still set up for the summer so it was trying to idle at 500revs in the cold.

Thats water/oil from the breather, too much like gravy.
If a stock bus dumps oil its probably blown oil cooler seals or the oil cooler. Happens if you floor it on a cold start on a cold day.
Engine out time but the parts are cheap. Provided you didnt drive it once the oil light came on.
You will find lots of oil on the left hand side of the engine.
Next most likely is a hole in the engine case made by broken bits flapping. Sad day if so but the hole should be visible or shrapnel in the engine bay.

Low power is valve adjustment, timing , air leaks , wire fallen off spark plug ( bus will do 40-50 with one cylinder doing nothing. Or about 20mph with two cylinders failed on the flat). Hole in piston, missing exhaust valve are the expensive reasons..

I’ve just hit a deer with it, that’s what I’ve done today.
Or rather the deer hit the bus.
Luckily for both Her mate jumped out first so I slowed down as there’s often a few more behind. There was. This one went to cross and then fortunately saw me just as I saw it, so a sort of glancing blow on the side followed. A loud bang but couldn’t see much of a dent in the dark. Put it away in the poly tunnel in a strop. I’ll have a closer look later.

  13. Dropped the beam finally. Only took 2 full days of bashing with a sledge hammer.
Beam is mostly intact. A little patching needed behind the shock arm and on the bump stop holders. No major grease leaks or other damage though, which is good.
    Should clean up nicely.

  14. May well clean up nicely. No holes in the very bottom of the shock towers, below the lower torsion bars?

Post another pic when you've had at it with the wire brush!

Pump some waxoil or similar into it.
VW did allow for this with vents in the horns.
An old acorn I know but look carefully at the top of the horn.
There are also vents/holes at the bottom so whilst the beam is off I'd top and tail it.

It’s been about 10 years since I first hit one. That was on the front of my car and would’ve been expensive if I’d claimed but it was only minor. This time as it ran into the side of the bus it doesn’t look like there’s much to show for it luckily but I’ll have a look in the daylight. Made a right bang though!
    Ran off seemingly ok.
Sounds like your son was less lucky

I bet. In a car with a big one you’d knock the legs out from underneath and have it right in your face.
I’m only 3 miles or so from Ashdown Forest. They’re all over the place, usually a little after dusk like tonight.

  19. Where did you find your...orifices? Expected to find something somewhere on my beam horns, but drew a blank, even after scrubbing off all the crud.

Go round it tapping with a small hammer. You may find some of the rust spots are where its has gone through from inside. Especially from beside the bump stop tubes and lower down...
