I have a pertronix and never had a problem in 8 years. Top of the engine doesn't actually get that hot when running, as it's the "cool" side, compared to the underneath. I bet if you put the old double relay back on it will run fine for ten minutes and then cut out again. It's just as it has cooled down a bit it will run fine. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Hi @Lord Congi those symptoms sound identical to the ones my bus had a year or so ago. Just after a rebuild with loads of new bits and it ran really nicely for several miles then lost power and ground to a halt. After a few minutes it woul restart and run for a bit then same again. After swapping and checking LOADS of stuff I tracked it down to a new fuel filter that was faulty. Basically the core expanded as it soaked up fuel and blocked the inlet. I had bought it from VWH and gave them a right bollocking for it as one or two others had suffered the same flaw. Well worth checking as it's a very cheap fix
Yes - I've heard that too - was on a thread here last year I think . Electronic ignition either works or it doesn't - rarely breaks down and then starts up again. I would go with blocked fuel filter or blocked vent in fuel cap or filler pipe - try running it for bit with fuel cap off
Well it did 125 each way to the lakes last week but only managed 40 today in the heat, think it's the same thing ad were all stumped, appreciate it's only cheap but am just sick of breaking down and how random.it is but same symptoms, I just drive it in fear waiting for the juddering to start
This is the little Illegitimate child that gave me the problems Here you can see it fitted. I remember being puzzled as to why it had a liquid level visible and essentially the bus on occasion would be drinking fuel faster than gravity could replenish it into through the filter. If your filter is one of these then I strongly suspect its the culprit. I manage to drive from Derby all the way to Wales and almost back one time before the symptoms occurred. Another time I managed maybe 40miles and then had to do 5 mile jumps. Total pain in the arse.
The issue when I cut it open was that the plastic cap on the end of the paper filter was too close a fit to the outer casing and it could block the inlet
Cheers @Bertiebot for the pictures and help, good old tlb users to the rescue as always, thanks everyone Probably gonna take a t25 to Spain all going well which means @Geordie gets a bed as well.
