Finally got round to sorting out the starter wiring. Cleaned it all, went to fire it up and nowt.

Wiggled the earth wire and fired up immediately! Decided to finish the job properly and stripped the earth wire back and renewed the spade connector.

    Started proper after that!!

I'll not get boastful about this.... 20 years ago I had the engine replaced in my old bug. Having a smoke out the back of work I witnessed the manager struggle to fire up his flashy BMW... I thought to myself 'my new engine is going to fire up straight away later'.... did it fudge.

Proof in the pudding is getting to work on time tomorrow!!

  2. Removed all the red oxide from flatbed and drop sides ,now started on removing grey primer that was underneath, once that's out of the way I'm back to original paintwork ! Only taken 94 hrs so far !! IMG_4894.JPG IMG_4921.JPG IMG_4927.JPG IMG_5072.JPG IMG_5092.JPG IMG_5094.JPG IMG_5285.JPG IMG_5286.JPG

Fell out of love with me Dub, but aint wrestling no more, as I believe, Slim Shady states.
Seats out and cab area stripped for wheel arch and B pillar repair.
Spent a scary amount on body parts. Time for a hand steadying strength G&T, life's' most essential multi vitamin.

  4. I finally made a start on my beam replacement. I cleaned up the LHD beam and gave it a couple of coats of paint. Then I got the bus up on stands and started unbolting stuff. I'll save moving the servo bracket and steering damper mount until the old one is off, and I can measure properly.

  5. Gave it a wash for the first time in nearly a year, filled the washer bottle and switched the horn over from the klaxon to the legal boring one for its MOT tomorrow.

  7. Fingers crossed. I pay enough for the MOT (they charge the maximum they legally can) so it deserves to pass. ;)

All the smiley neighbours who were happy to see me back on working at the beast yesterday, were a little bit scowely tonight. Payback, this street used to be like Little Beruit, now its my turn.

  11. Stuck my finger through the far side sill so got the angle grinder out and fudged a repair. I'll be doing the whole bottom six inches soon so just needed something to get through the MOT.[IMG][IMG]

  12. Took 'Dan's Bus' down to 'Evil Ben's in Cornwall, for minor adjustments on the engine, clutch , brakes and Steering, ready for Brittany and Holland this summer.
She drove down and back to Somerset just like a train, I cruised at 3100 rpm and got fuel consumption figures of 320 km/31 litres, which I seriously, don't think I have ever seen before.
It gives you such a good feeling mixing it with the holiday traffic.
I love this old bus, same as my old Dog.

I never realised you could get to Somerset in Kms, I've only ever done it in miles

  14. You get to Cornwall from Somerset in Km if you have an import like mine.
It has been a source of comment by MOT men who see the speedo in miles, and the odometer in Km.
Its all the same to me as I can calculate 5/8;)

So i fixed / bodged my door check strap. seems it was missing the bush in the end of the strap which gave rise to the clunk, clunk noise.

Turns out than filing of an M6 rivnut and drilling out the threads is a made to measure repair!! i left a half mm lip on the top, so next time I take the pin out, the bush wont make a bid for freedom.... I think that actually constitutes an upgrade :D

  16. Been told, " This is ok while the kids are off." So I got the jiggler out on a big flappy bit and let them know what loud really is. Then Mrs P came back with the dog, who didnt recognize me with goggles and a mask on. Went absolutely mental. Big greyhound staffi cross. Looks like I m the streets folk devil again.

Took it for an MOT, failed on hand brake. Quick check and it only needed adjustment. All done and now MOT in the bag.

Only problem was I took it in 1 month early so was hoping to get 13 months but I was I month and 1 day so only 12 months.

    Oh well.

On the + side, no advisories.

Finally finished sorting out the pipework in the gas bottle cupboard, ready for the Propex at Techenders... it's been a bit of a learning curve and took a while longer than I thought, owing to a random mix of imperial and metric pipe sizes, but I got there.

Hob, Fridge & Oven good to go, and a tap left for the Propex. Happy Days.
