Looks very tidy. Try here if you have any mechanical issues or want to know stuff about you pride & joy http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=61542647100012&mode=tlist&subject=71
Bear in mind you don't have to use the overdrive. I find its only useful for speeds over 55mph to keep the revs lower so the engine is not racing. In overdrive it will save a little fuel but you won't get any more than 22 mpg anyway. They drink as much as our vans do. The standard 1800 engine is lovely and will accelerate away at 30mph in 4th, there is good low revs power. They are not like modern high revving engines. I love my mgb and you will grow to enjoy yours. As Barneyrubble says going chrome will cost a mint as you would need wire wheels to match the look and also a different size rear axle to take the wires with knock on caps. Nothing wrong with rubber bumper mgb's, I see lots at shows and on the runs. I also suggest MGOC membership and joining a local MG club, you will like the different scene.
I got the 2 DVD box set of An MG is Born, its a good laugh and very informative. Load of old blokes buying a wreck and restoring it to concours condition.
Looks good - I had a 79 BGT for 12 years - sold it when I bought my MGA. Great everyday car with rubber bumpers - no worries in car parking - you can push other cars out the way with them. Good on the M'way with the overdrive - mine was smooth changing with no sign of jerking or snatching - but remember to switch it off before you reverse - it can get stuck - I've seen it happen - there is a mesh /magnetic filter underneath that can be cleaned out if it starts playing up - and low oil level will make it stop working - and a broken wire from the gear stick switchis also common. Join a local MG club - I am secretary of West Lancs MGOC - it will give you lots of opportunity to get first hand advice as well as joining others on drives etc.
1969, total resto by me, that had overdrive on little switch on the dash , I've had 7 Bs and 3 Midgets
I sold my Midget last week, did a chrome bumper conversion on it including cutting and shutting the chassis rails.
Don't do it! Rubbers converted to chrome will be like bays converted to look like splits (remember those!!) in years to come. Everyone will know it's a convert, unless you put new doors on and interior in. Rubber and red is cooool
Funny how most people seem to start the classic car thing with either an MG or a Morris Minor. I had an MG Midget.
Nice motor @paneuropaul : ) I meant to ask if anyone knows what wheels these are and what the originals should be??
