What was your best trip and worst and why

 

in the van or on drugs?

 

best trip restored my van then took it to disneyland paris then through france down to spain for a month wicked amazing journey

worst trip was driving back from spain home as somebody broke into my house and nicked everything including me work van gutted

Worst trip I ever had was to Cornwall. I realise that this isn't going to be popular, (an aircooled VW owner with a downer on Cornwall, ) but it left me hating the place. We went to Newquay in the same weekend as Run To The Sun.

We stayed in a campsite that turned out to be at the top of the hill next to the airport. It was very exposed, windy, blustery, raining, cold, miserable.

We had to put up with site owners who treated us like dirt because they expected anyone with an aircooled VW to be yobbish, young, loud, getting *******ed all the time and keeping everyone awake to all hours with music.

When the weather smashed our awning and we had to abandon our holiday 3 days early, all the 'normals' in their white boxes sat there and watched us as we struggled to pack up an awning that just wanted to fly away in the wind. Site owners' reaction was merely "well, the weather's supposed to be getting better tomorrow". Too late - all our stuff was ruined and we were going home.

We're never going back to Cornwall.

Best - 3 week trip from Worcestershire up the west coast of Scotland in 1987. Not a day of rain, not a cloud in the sky. On to Mull, then Harris/Lewis wild camping most nights. Our 73 1600 Devon did'nt miss a beat (other than a stuck starter motor on day one in the Lakes!!

Worst - a long weekend in Dorset starting on a camp site with an owner that made us move after we had put up the awning because he did'nt want our van near to the site entrance. It was too late to move sites and we needed to be there as my Mrs had a 10k to run the following day. In the morning , having moved, the van had deposited a fair bit of oil onto the grass and would not start. Waiting for AA the owner bent our ears the whole morning about "the mess".

My wife ran the race, broke a bone in her foot and we came back on the Yellow breakdown truck.

Best trip I had was in July 2011 when we went to European Bug In, then Luxembourg, went to Germany & around the Nurburg ring & finally Paris. The worst trip I had was August 2008 when we went to Scotland, I only got as far as Welshpool & the Van caught fire, I'm afraid it was terminal

 

^...and a fully Chris'd-up immaculate van it was too.
