"Late" starter in engine stand, "early" 200mm flywheel on engine. Pinion doesn't engage, just clouts the flywheel, which may be due to the stand bracket being mis-aligned a bit (which I suspect). Are the pinion teeth on an "early" the same pitch/number as on a "late" - I assume they are, the difference being the pinion shaft length and bellhousing only, yes? Threw my duff early starter away, so I can't compare, unfortunately.
Nose is longer for bellhousing, teeth are the same. Is it one of those stands from VZi? If so it'll need "adjusting" using the appropriate knockometer.
Mine only engages once every three or four times so I've just swapped the bush out for a new one - it was ovalled. I expect you've already checked that.
Yes, it is the VZi one. Good stuff, but his assembly jig was obviously a bit wonky. I'm a couple of mm shy of the pinion engaging. I'll get my adjustment stick out... Assume you had to whack yours a bit?
Yep, wasn't going to use mine for firing up, but as it looks so sturdy, I'll give it a go . Did you belt the flat metal plate? I'm assuming the "bush" hole is in the correct position for flywheel engagement (haven't measured it yet)?
