  1. Sorry if this goes on a bit. So I went to lemans 24hr in the bus running great until about 180miles from leman. I stopped for a little rest / have a look at things noticed my carb / manifold bolts had come loose, quick tighten then on my way. about 10 mins after this i smelt burning oil, slowed down and could hear a slight knocking so thought next services ill be in and have a look all was running ok. At idle the knocking was worse but not a killer knocking, sounded like somehting was trapped in the fan. then i noticed i was smoking a bit. everything looked fine i thought i have to carry on. So on my journey i go then the engine gets hot, stop again. Check the oil used some, my first thought was i have knackered a piston ring, not alot i can do about this ill have to take it slow and keep stopping, Eventually after lots of nursing i make it to leman, after lots of stopping and nursing, and meeting lots of nice fellow leman'ers in the services i think it took me 10 hours to cover the last 180 miles. i cant do this all the way back so i get it recoverd when i am there, this was a mission in its self.

Anyway it was returned on saturday, not that i knew this was happening, just dropped outside my house. So straight away i set to dismantling to see what went wrong and this is the result. On the plus side piston rings are still in tact. Not got to finding the bit of piston yet. i am shocked i still managed to carry on like this.

  5. Wow what caused that? Was it an original piston - has it been over revved?

  6. I was thinking full rebuild!! Yellow snowed??? i have literally no idea what caused it i was just cruising at 55ish the whole way so no over revving. im guessing with brazil stamped on these pistons they aint original. And guessing at some of the brazilian part i have had they could be of the same quality??

  7. Wow. What came out when you dumped the oil?

  8. Wow! good work. If you're gonna do a job, do it properly.
