Wonky fibreglass roofs

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by volkswombat, Sep 3, 2015.

  1. The big full length side hinged fibreglass roofs like Viking, Devon Moonraker etc.

Cleaned mine today and now I see just how Marmite it is. Wavey and lumpy, bowed like a banana....

Is it possible to get them looking semi straight again? Maybe insertion of braces inside that the fibreglass can be fixed too to pull it straight/flat?
Or are they always going to look dodgy because of the size?

Yep, you can take them off and glass some timber spars in to add rigidity.

  4. Just need to bear in mind that you are adding even more weight up there. Guess not an issue on hinged side but may be on lifted side;)

    Depends on hinge mechanism.

  6. Have you done it or know someone who has?

Wonder if it will pull the waviness/ bumpiness flat or not?

I cut timbers for mine and a mate glassed them in for me.
He used heat first to soften it up a bit then glass paste to almost "hold" the dents out. Glassed in the spars and jobs a good'un.
