Hi , I am just about to put my steering colomn back together and I've got this split type Bush thing that when I press it in between the shaft and bearing removes the play , but I don't know if it's an original item as I can't find them on the net ,the steering was wobbly before I took it apart . Had anybody got any guidance as it springs back out when I remove the pressure ,it is a tapered thingy lol
The rubber grommet ring should be there it is essential. tap it down to sit below the steel to about 15mm. it is retained with a washer and circlip.

I had the same sprung bush in my steering setup, so I'd guess it's original VW. Nobody produces or sells a suitable alternative that I could find, so you're lucky to have that one. My bus is a 1977.
