Wiring temperature regulating switch

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by icepug, Sep 30, 2013.

  1. I'm lost. I have been trying to figure out how to wire the switch that came with my eberspacher but I can't seem to figure it out. I am assuming I can use this switch as a thermostat? Am I right to think that? I found this page but can't make head nor tails of it http://manuals.type4.org/ba4_bulletins/1975_Dec_08.html. That part number is 411 963 107C. Any help would be great. I know it's not a timer switch as I have one of those and it's not the same. Cheers in advance guys

You can't use it to regulate the temperature, just to set the temperature, there needs to be a temp sensor wired to it

  3. Could I just use it as a basic switch but put a room thermostat inline to regulate the temperature?!?

  4. have a close look at the diagram...essentially it's telling you to bridge 58b and terminal 4 (blue/red tracer) and run a new cable between the brown/whites and terminal 31...hard to make out from diagram

if it had the same parameters as the original temp sensor....it's just a switch...have a look at RS online

  5. I thought it was a timer switch. you turn it one way to be on longer... where did you get the switch? been looking for one of those for ages :(

  6. I just wired mine in two days ago, looks exactly the same from the front, as you say mine acts as a timer which will cut out at the end of its wind down unless you have turned the ig on, i guess this one must be different?

  7. I have one of the large timers spare

  9. would you consider selling the spare timer Keith? no worries if you want to hold on to it

  10. Not sure what its worth? But willing to flog it
I will post a pic this evening

    bluething likes this.
  11. How did you wire yours?

  12. Can you still get hold of the temp sensors?

Which model is this on? Did you get the one I sent you the link for?

  14. I think I have confused what you meant. I have the temp sensor that goes on the ducting like the one you sent me and I have set that up as per the manual using a thermometer. I want to use this switch as a thermostat for arguments sake. Is this switch a simple case of an on/off switch and when its set to a certain temperature it will cut the power at that temperature until it drops then power up again to maintain the temperature?

that one is a thermostat and a temperature control, is a bimetallic switch that switches the burner on and off, the temperatures is set mechanically so it wont be useable with that switch, the switch is for the more modern. you need an electrical temp sensor to go with the dash mounted one, but all you need to go with the mechanical one is a cable to pull and push it to alter the temp, simples

  16. cheers Keith that would be great!

  17. my understanding of the switch is that it's a timer that counts down. the further you rotate the knob the longer the heater would be on. as the timer runs out, it enables the cool down proceedure for the heater, which I'm assuming cuts the fuel and leaves the blower on for a minute so that the hot air isnt left siting in the ducting. could be completley wrong though as it's only what ive read on't tinternet

  18. I have the cable and all the necessary fittings. My thinking is that if I want to use it as a night heater for when I am camping I want to be able to leave it on overnight and have a thermostat control the heat. But reading your reply I take it I can just use the cable operation. AWESOME!!!! So with this in mind I can just wire the switch as an on/off switch???

    exaaaaactly :)

  20. Nearly :)
The Eber is also powered directly from the main cable to the battery, whatever switch/timer you use turns off mainly the fuel pump, they then run on to cool down until a bi metal switch cuts the power from the battery
My switch, similar to Icepugs (but not the same) allows you to run the heater for a short period without the ignition on, when it winds down unless the ignition is on it will shut down
Anyways, this is the other timer i mentioned
