wiring loom tube/ crossmembers

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by burntout, Jun 13, 2012.

  1. I've got a couple of repairs to do to the cross members where the wiring loom tube goes through them (tubes also rotten) i'm a bit stumped to know what to do for the best, can't put the new outriggers on till the crossmembers are repaired. Do I

    A) Cut the loom and pull it out to repair the cross members and tube for the loom then rejoin and heat shrink it?

    B) pull the loom out completely from the engine bay to avoid cutting it and put up with the agro of putting it back?

    C) carefully pick the loom out of the cross members and let it hang under the bus and do the repairs and then just cable tie it up under the bus forgetting about the tube and having it pass through the cross members BUT not have the agro of pulling it all out or cutting it and having potential probs at a later date from loose connections/water ingress?

Or have I missed a solution thats staring me in the face  Please bear in mind I hate electrics with a passion and will suffer from sense of humour failure complete with an attack of torets :arrggh: if to much wiring is involved

    HELP :help-sos:

Disconnect the engine bay wiring (dont forget the fuel tank sender wire and starter) and pull the wiring out from the fount that way you leave as much as posable connected at the front.

Do your welding including replacement of the rusty conduit and paint it.

As you have gone to this much trouble replace the loom might be a option now

Put it all back and spend the next week asking where does this wire go ;D

What matty says - it will be 'easy' to pull the engine bay wires through. I'd replace the loom conduit with PVC tubing.
