    Its for an Early Split

    What I have

Semaphores with a constant live when activated
    Single Filament rear lights
    Central feeble festoon brake light
    No indicators

    What I want
Retain Semaphores as are, [if you put a flasher relay on them they just go crazzzzy]
    single filament type rear lights
    Bright brake lights both sides
Brake lights that flash to act as some sort of indiction to following drivers [I know not probably legal but thats what everybody does]
    Front amber indicators

    My plan
Go LED to not overload loom
    retain semaphores as is
Fab a holder for an LED brake tail & bulb
Fit amber led bulb in front light in redundant side light holder.
get an LED flasher unit per side
i now need the brake light to come on with the brakes & come on with the indicators & flash at the given time. It can be done cos you can buy a box of tricks [& it may well come to that!!]

What Im thinking is a normally closed relay each side brake outlet

The relay each side to route flasher to the "correct" brake light when the brake is off does make sense - this could be a 2 pole changeover relay to save wiring.

The other way to do the semaphore could be to fit a totally normal flasher, but put a pulse-triggered relay to "stretch" the indicator pulses each side for the semaphore motion. (a diode , resistor and a capacitor on the relay coil - charges up while the lights are 'on', holds for half a second or a bit more, then releases) If you used solid state components, thats really easy with a MOSFET ..
you would need a 12 volt feed for the semaphore then have the indicator feed for the relay and the bulb in the semaphore in that case.

And fit a high level brake light - actually the feeble central brake light on that Split is probably more where people expect to see a bright brake light these days, putting a really bright LED there plus a couple more bright lights either side. ..

    Some good advise there!!

  5. If you want to retain the semaphores and have flashing indicators as well. Use two relays one each for left and right. Connect pin 30 on each relay to 49A the indicator relay output, and 87 output of each relay to left and right indicators. Use the signal from the indicator stalk to the semaphores to switch each relay.

I will sit down with that information and make meself a diagram!!

  7. Surely hand signals were the norm back then ??
Don`t mess around with all this mumbo-jumbo ...
