Wiper motor

  1. Hello, I have a 73 Westy which has a motor which looks like it has been "modified" in the past. At the moment I am getting slow speed on stage one, but nothing else. It was blowing fuses but I seem to have cured this by regreasing the spindles. Can someone tell me which colour wire is the high speed and how I can test the motor? As I said there is evidence it has been re-soldered in the past

  2. What colours are the wires from it?

  4. Well I have two speed wiper now - its the switch thats dodgy. You have to pull it back from speed 2 position for it to make contact. I have had it apart and cleaned it but it is not better so may be worn? Anyone else had this? Also I have no self park at present?

I have a good original amd uncut wiring loom from the switch to the motor if that is the problem.

  6. Obvious question, but are the park switch connections from the motor wired up correctly (or at all)?

Self park relies on the switch providing power to the motor through a contact from the off position. The motor then runs fast until a contact operated by a switch in the gearbox in series with that wire opens..Then another contact operated by the gearbox shorts the motor to make it stop hard.

  8. I will check again with the meter to see whats voltages I am getting from the park feed

When my ignition switch was faulty, if I switched off the engine while the wipers were on (which would stop but not park the wipers), hours later the wipers would start up again on their own.

  10. From memory, you shouldn’t be getting anything - it’s just a pair of switch contacts.

  11. The bloody thing blew a fuse again last night after I had re-fitted the spindle seals and bolted it up tight. Not sure if the resistance has gone up or the switch is arcing. I have now run out of fuses!

Have you removed the spindles and greased them?

  13. Yes I did that and took the cover off to check the gears etc. Was working fine when I hadnt fully tightend it. Will need to wait for more fuses befre having another look

  14. Quick update - I received my job lot of fuses and after checking the motor direct to the battery and again checking the grease , I reassembled and all was good except no park. The the blinkin fuse blew again, so I can only assume the brushes need doing. Giving up for now and back to re-laying the patio......

  15. I think it’s the plastic gears that have had it . There is definitely some damage on the gear and I reckon this is causing the fuse to blow. I guess I am looking at a new motor.
