There aren't many colours I don't like its the hardest decision of all, and I've got to do it twice!

Few more hours done today, wiped the dust off the roof then decided it wasn't quite ready so went over it all again with 600s, need to get it out of the garage and have a good clean up then I'll have a go at priming the roof now I've got a bit more warmth in there.

Gave the garage a good clean out at the weekend so it was ready for painting this morning,
panel wiped and tack rag, put the heater on, etched the bare bits, went for a bacon butty at the local shop while that dried then tack rag again and primed the roof

I'll go back in an hour and see how much dust and crap has stuck to it

Lots of spiders webs though, I'll never get the place clean enough to top coat in but I should get away with priming and flagging then farm it out for colour!

  6. Naa you will be fine (think I did a thread on this already elsewhere) its surprising what can be achieved at home - it means some more elbow grease and polish at the end rather thsn near perfect body shop! If you farm it out they will still moan at the quality of your workmanship and want to do some of their own (well depends if they care or not) ! You are doing really well all my resrays were outdoors waiting for good enough weather! I even resprayed my first Beetle with Aerosol tins (cost a bit but looked good)

  7. You could always pin up some sheet plastic around the garage when you want to do the top coat to create kind of spray booth to keep the spiders out... Looks good so far anyways :)

Yeh I went back after lunch and was very encouraged, just a couple of small runs, flatted them out and gave it all a de nibbing with 1200s then another coat.

I think I can get the roof done if I'm careful then I can tent the place with plastic sheeting, but I need the full headroom to do the roof first. I'm using celly so no probs cutting back and polishing later.

Almost all the filling done now, it's been very cold though so painting very localised panel at a time with the heater pointing at it, not ideal but I'm getting there.
Bare metalled and etched the tailgate and engine lid this morning both in good nic

I might be by choice, I'm hoping to have the pickup finished for that!

  17. Looks like its coming along nicely.
I've just got the rear hatch and my arch repair to paint on mine before Eskdale.

Still a bit cold for painting so set about the passenger door, it annoys me when what appears to be a proper repair panel has just been brazed over the rusty door bottom, for an extra half hours effort they could have done it properly!

The frame is ok under that lot and the lowest bit of the door just needs a tiny patch.

Think the drivers door is the worst of the two.

Stripped both doors down this morning, not done one before so wasn't sure what order stuff best came out, first one took about an hour second one 20 mins,
    [IMG]
Drivers doors got nearly identical rot and crappy repair as passenger door

  20. Keep at it dude:thumbsup:

Its a big shame the repair panels for the doors are no longer available as they take some time to make good and import ones are expensive:(
