It appears someone has joined the two breather pipes together with a bit of hose dude Where they join they should go into a t piece with a single hose leading off into the airfilter housing The steel sound proofing retaining plates you have fitted should have som little metal clips rivited on that hold the pipes up and out of the way
I just re did my system as someone had hacked off both metal pipes. You can just see the brass T piece at the top of the pic which joins both pipes and sends them to the top of the air filter:
Cheers Ricky But where on the air filter does it go? Thanks Para I know your miles away but your always on TLB to answer a question........ Cheers to all you guys that take the time to help ... Greatly appreciated
Cheers K&T Yes it's an old pic, it's a lot neater in the engine bay now , it was the only pic I could find at the time
As others have said, just pipe into one of your air filters. I've just taken a pancake off mine but the pic below shows how the breather was plumbed in. Hope it helps.
think i need mine doing i keep smelling fuel not all the time but its there, will do a check on the one in the spare wheel well cheers for that, and when weather better will check the fuel pipe.
the proper place for mine was into the charcoal filter but i removed it hence sending it to the air filter.
Standard Air Filter boxes have an inlet for the breather pipes. Someone on here was selling the paper type box for £30.
Anyone got a pic of it going to the air filter box on a 2 ltr type4 twin solex carb setup ..... Please....
Managed to get the cover up for two minutes yesterday to check the one by the spare wheel well .... This is what I found!!!... ... A little job for the weekend me thinks
well spotted bertie, I know this thread has been a bit 'scare mongering' but at least now all that read it are checking especially the one by the spare wheel well...its such cheap (if hard to get at) fix for peace of mind...
Too right Had petrol smell since we've had the bus, every now and again... Just thought that was the norm, glad its been spotted and get that little piece fixed over the weekend
Ive just done all of mine. while is was at it, I replaced the filler neck and rubber tube. There was visible evidence that it had been leaking for quite some time, unnoticed because the area is hidden on a pickup. glad its done, doesnt smell of petrol anymore. Rather than getting the VWHeritage pipe i decided to get some marine fuel hose (60mm internal diameter) cist a whopping £5.50 as apposed to the £23 VW Heritage part wanted. Also, I went to my local parts supplier Karmann Konection and got the filler neck elbow for £10
