Who's installed Litesteer steering?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by snotty, Mar 5, 2016.

  1. Just watched their vid: impressive.

    Anyone installed their unit? Probs?

  2. I am hoping to do it in the spring. Their video is very good.

I think zed tried it on somebodies van from previous comments.

Was going to talk to them about a testdrive with their test vehicle before commiting.

  3. Looks pretty slick. Slightly concerned about the strain it might put on the steering coupler...

  4. Looks very good. But quite expensive. I think I would need to be using my bus a lot more to warrant paying out that much.

  5. I did it ,removed the steering damper and put 60 psi in my tyres (as recommended on here)...

Is it the one with a manual speed control or auto speed sensor?
The manual one would be awful I reckon.
Zed drove one and I seem to remember him saying it was great!
I guess the only increase in strain on the coupler would be due to the ability to turn the wheel whilst stationary?

  7. Yes this was a concern and really the whole steering setup. Not sure but do Brazilians bays come with PAS?

I have replaced most of my steering over the last year as a precursor to getting this fitted. However I think will still have to be careful and as my dad would tell me "never move the steering when the car is stationary" as it strains all the linkages!

    Newbies don't come with PAS.
I swapped my box to a rack. Made the steering a whole lot lighter and more direct in 1 foul swoop.

  9. looks easy to install and certainly easier to steer, but it's still reliant on the coupling flange and the steering box....would it make the steering any less vague....I don't know?...Rack and pinion would be my choice tbh

Lovely to drive, coupler gets chucked I think?

I'd have thought if the steering was bad to start with, you'd now have lighter bad steering?

  12. They wont make the steering any better, just lighter, i cant remember who but someone explained in detail that it puts no additional strain on the steering?
You can upgrade the non speed sensitve ones quite easily

  13. Mine is still intact....however whilst the steering is great it it as well to remember the van itself is still an antique unless everything else has been upgraded.

  14. My steering's been fully massaged ;)...

  15. Did you tighten your nuts?

  16. UJ replaces the coupler. @Paul Weeding is fitting one for me now.

If you watch the vid you’ll see that the original coupler is replaced by a U/J.

I fitted mine last year and as far as driving experience is concerned if there are any downsides I haven’t found them yet but if you have a parcel shelf part of it will need to be cut away to give clearance for the motor. Its load and speed sensitive, there are no manual controls and the transition from full assistance at low speed to no assistance as speed increases is seamless.

It’s an excellent piece of kit and thoroughly recommended.

haven,t looked into it but i suppose it has its advantages over normal cars in that if the engine ain't running you still have power steering
