The pukka VW brazil ones I think are the only available? They are a very good fit obviously as they make their buses out of them.

  5. I used the Brazilian ones which fitted very well.

I had to square off the recess for the top corner of the tailgate to get it looking right. The new bays must have a larger radius on the tailgate corners.

  6. Are the Brazilian ones good quality I.e the steel??? I have a thing in my head that they won't be as good over time!!!

  7. Brazilian steel isn't as good as original german steel, but as long as you seal everything up properly it will be fine, german ones only start rusting because the seam sealer round the battery tray and in the seam between the rear quarter and corner gets brittle and lets water in. They'd still be going strong if people checked that kind of thing. The brazilian ones are an excellent fit though and worth the money, a zillion times better than those crappy lower corner repairs you get.
I guess the best option might be a panel cut from a usa bus, but then you've got to factor in stripping the stuff you don't want off it.

im interested if anyone has done a test on a brazil panel and a german one to add any weight to the old wives tale that the steel is different or thinner. brazil panels are excellent

  9. I've held an NOS front arch and a Brazilian one, and the brazilian one felt lighter, but not by much. I'd always assumed it's thinner gauge steel and less carbon, but maybe you're right and it's just an old wives tale. I also thought that the fact that brazilian bays rust quickly confirmed it, but I guess that could be a less thorough approach to finishing,i.e sealing, painting etc.
That said, the cargo floor halfs are definently thinner steel.

i have a NOS jacking poitn and outrigger and its identical in thickness etc to a brazil one, but everyone says they're different, i wondor how many people have compared like for like. it occured to me that perhaps the jacking points are pushed into the sills to pre-stress them so there isnt any flex when jacking up and down, which is what causes failure to jacking point on most vehicles
