On the back of the best conversion thread. I wondered who has the quickest camping set up, I mean you park the van and how soon are you set up and camping. Me n Will just park up stick the roof up- we are camping Alternatively if we intend to stay longer we tie the shade awning in two places put up the single pole for it and hammer in the two tent pegs that tie it down, we then hammer in two wind breaks, put down a couple small groundsheets, erect the fold up table and two chairs and in ten minutes we're settled in for a couple of days. Simple non fussy camping - made better if the parking is free! Can you do you set up quicker, is your van easier to set up or do you take the works and take all day setting up?
At Brighton in a couple of weeks, I will be set up in minutes. I will pop up a pop up tent and throw everything in the van into said tent. Then I'll open a couple of chairs and a couple of beers. When I go away for a fortnight, I take enough for a month.
i'd say @zed wins - I myself prefer the take your time approach - usually because I have to plumb the "kitchen sink" in.....
Setting up the satellite dish and tuning in the tv can take a while especially if we need to put the dish onto the 20' pole first and peg in the four guy ropes. Once that's done and we've used the satellite finder to make sure we've got all the channels on the tv the rest is quite quick. Levelling the van with the spirit level and chocks takes only 30mins and The awning takes only 45 mins to erect and once that's done the toilet tent is even quicker although getting the toilet perfectly level and filled with chemicals takes a while. We also put up three windbreaks and transfer the spare gas bottle and gas BBQ to the awning with the pop up larder, kwik erect tables and use the mobile compressor to pump up the chairs. Occasionally we forget to put the awning carpet down first so emptying the awning, laying the carpet, and refilling the awning can easily eat up another hour. Nearly ready for camping now, just the fire pit and supply of logs to remove from the van and put in the wood store plus the campbeds setting up not forgetting the screw thing that stops the dog running away. Sometimes we shorten the whole thing by not putting up the flag pole, flag and fairy lights and just make do with the portable generator hooked up to the flood lights. Then we just make the tea and we're camping!
Only three and a half hours after arriving at a campsite we're ready to sit and take the Micky out of caravan owners who faff about taking ages to set up
I just walk ouside to the bus with a cup of tea I made in the kitchen, get in and thats it. Im also getting pretty good petrol consumption figures and service intervals are quite long.
