Which job do you never want to do again on a bus?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by moortarn, Jan 28, 2015.

  1. After struggling all day to fit heat exchangers and exhaust and engine bay seal, that didn't line up very well , I never want to do this again, do they ever line up and fit correctly? Got a feeling fitting new heater cables will be just as bad!!

I guess most jobs for the first time are a cock - no where near as bad second time around (am thinking rear drum backing plates personally).

  13. Drilling the casing to fit a thread insert. Trying to line up square was a pain.

  14. I find that quite theraputic. 1st time I did it, it was -8 and on the drive, the day before the Mot. Complete knacker ache, nowt went right. Started at 6 in the evening and finished passed midnight. Joy!

  17. i'd go with the cv joints too, the bolts for the drive shafts can be pigs to get off and then you get covered in grease.
if you ever need a hand give me a shout and i'll pop round.
i did my heater cables which to be fair wasn't that bad, don't just pull them out but work them in and out clearing any crap as they move....

  18. I don't mind cv joints/ boots. I've done enough now that I can manage not to get completely mired in grease now.

I really dislike repairing converted panel van window frames in vans with new headlining already fitted

  19. The rear roof/gutter repair I carried out last year, wouldn't want to do that again in a hurry.

I'm not looking forward to refitting the fuel tank either, I gave it a go before I wrapped the van up for winter but had a serious issue trying to get the short piece of fuel filler hose to fit over the tank connector and metal filler tube as it was so bloody tight, tried softening it up with warm water but it didn't help, its the first thing I need to address in the spring.
The previous bit of hose went on easy a few years ago but it was a different quality and softer supplied hose at the time.

No its simple : Push one end in to the gap below the firewall from just to the left of the oil cooler - it should slide across to the right and then you can pull a bit around and push a bit and repeat.
Then when half way round, just pack the rest in .
