Which 12- 240v invertor?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by jamusbass, Dec 11, 2011.

  1. Hi Folks,

I'm looking to fit an invertor to power a kettle and various bits and bobs.. Really I'm just looking for some advise on which brands are good, reliable and safe. Any advise would be most welcome..

    Thanks,

    Jamie

  2. I'm guessing an invertor big enough to power a 240V kettle will need to output at least 1 kw. Maplin does one for £129.99. If however you are mostly only going to otherwise need your invertor for lower power stuff like phone charging, they do a 150 watt one for only £35. This sort of power has been enough for me on the occasions when I don't have a hook up.

Have you considered getting a 12V kettle to run straight off the battery such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/AQUA-SOFT-TOUCH-KETTLE-VOLT/dp/B000VV2H7W ?

I'm presuming you don't have gas?

  3. Having read the reviews this one looks pretty rubbishy though :(

If you want to run a house hold kettle they can be 3000w a inverter rated at that will have a full load of 300A that's more than a starter motor so you will need a trailer to carry the battery's.

The better inverters are the ones that produce a sine wave output rather than a modified sinewave.

Do you not have a gas hob?? Far easier than an inverter to power a kettle. Also you will need a good leisure battery and even then it probably won't last that long to actually boil it.

  6. Never thought about a 12v kettle... Good idea! I don't have gas unfortunately. I'm in the process of converting to a camping interior at the moment, I'm still undecided if I should fit a gas or diesel heater or just man it out in the cold?? I managed to buy a very second hand westfalia side cupboard, overhead locker and rock n' roll bed am I correct in thinking the best place to fit the inverter would be under the r n' r bed?

My inverter is 300w. Perfect for chargers and my hand held hoover. It's also been handy for the electric jigsaw much to my neighbours amusement.

  8. Thanks guy's.. The little stove on Amazon looks great. As you can probably tell this is my first bus so every days a school day!

  10. Good advice from Majorhangover there

  11. Yes I have on of those stoves they are very good although when it's cold the bottles can frost up and stop the flow of gas.
The inverter really is only an apt ion for a laptop or speaker dock or mobile charger
I got one from maplins on offer a 500 w one for
