  1. Is when you supply panels to your repairer/restorer and then 5 years later find he didnt actually replace the panel cos its now rotted out and still has factory paint on it.

  2. Eeeek. Bad news. At the very least I'd be going round and asking for my panels back!

  7. Im not. Wont achieve anything. I think I know now why I got the cold shoulder from him last time I asked him to do some work. Will just advise of my experiences if asked.

if and when i ever get to resto point, be it this van or a different one, i will insist on the restoresr putting up with me visiting periodically to sign off his work, if he don't agree he don't get the work, the amount of "restorers/specialists" i hear about that are bodge merchants is ridiculous.

  9. my restorer took pics with disospable cameras i gave him , that was his idea and i was able to see what had gone on also i paid him in installments , it helped that he was not to far away so that i could call in, one restorer wanted to replace every panel and door at a cost of 18000 k and quoted 4 months for the work if no little jobs came up in between

  10. crikey 18k ....you could buy a rust free shell and swop all the bits from one to the other for that, and go america on a tour for a month ,and still have change .......

there does seem to be a fair few people on here who "don't want the hassle" when they have basically been fraudulently removed of their money by a criminal, no offence to the o/p or a few others i've read about but jesus, grow some balls peeps, kick some ass, these people continue to rip folk off because people never complain/slate or burn their place down/cover their car in nitromors from a faily liquid bottle.......(specific i know - don't ask)

  13. I wouldnt just sit back and take it either....I'd start the ball rolling to reclaim what I'd lost

  14. p.s. i would ask for monies back for it all...thats a proper disgrace ......if years had passed ,i would put it down to exp and forget it .....dont go there again ,also i would name and shame em ,but thats just me .....i bought from various companies and have crap goods ......when i complain they always make up excuses ,demand pics(even tho i want to send them the part back for them to see)....now i only buy vw parts in person and check twice .......megabug and coolair are probably the only trustworthy people to do your trade with ....megabug also do resto as well in there workshop .........hats off to the resto guys that work for a good price ...if in doubt check with zed for resto prices

  16. I've got loads of invoices from the work the previous owner had done. This included changing the fuel lines. I've just had the tank out and it seems they only changed the pipes the owner could see!

The tank had never been out and all the hoses are the originals!!

  17. Thankfully I don`t use garages cos I used to work in one ,I know what they are like... :-X

I found enthusiasts rather than money making chains are the best...

It`s hard getting people you can trust ,I interviewed a carpenter on monday to refit this house I am doing ,he sounded very honest ,we was walking past my pickup and he said he used to have one ,but the long wheel base version... ::) he should have kept on the subject of wood... ::)
