What thickness of foam (bed)???

  1. Not sure what thickness of foam to go for!

Will use "blue" upholstery foam but....do I go for 3 or 4 inch foam. Obviously there is a cost difference but is there actually any real advantage in going for 4" - I reckon anyone who is more than about 12 stone will flatten 4" foam in any case and I can assure you I am more than 12 stone!!
    Cheers B

  2. I bought the 3 inch stuff and regretted it ever since. I have to open a sleeping bag and lie on top of it to try and soften it. It's like sleeping on the floor.
Get the 4 inch stuff and a good nights sleep!

  3. The perfect answer... thanks Aussie, thats exactly what I needed to know!!

  4. 4 inch all round is standard, unless your bed isn't flush with the cargo deck...you have to think about the firmness of the foam as a seat, rather than it's softness as a bed...4 inch 'blue' foam is a good compromise...latex is much better but very £££

  5. so many bed threads!!. My foam is 5" thick and mega comfy so I guess we could live with 4". You could always get one of them mattress topper things too if you need extra comfort

Wouldn't go for the blue foam ...like sleeping on concrete! We upholster lots of R&Rs and the most popular is 4" to be honest ....but not blue foam ...get reflex foam it is comfier. Also your upholsterer will add a dacron cushion to preserve the covers and to add more cushion -which makes a real difference.

  7. westys are 4" over engine and 5" on seat and thats what ive got in my split and its the blue type foam i find it more comfortable than the bed at home !!! ps there are many different grades (stiffness) of blue foam

  9. cheers for the link :) i will be in the market for some foam soon for my bay when i get round to sorting the ply bases out. think it must be the standard firm 33/190 one in my split then as its firm'ish but not to hard

  10. My missus says she quite happy with 4 inches! :-[ But its a tad hard ! We used the blue foam and even with dacron sewn in I find it a bit firm >:D I take a memory foam topper rolled up in the van if im stopping for a few nights.

  13. I've got 4'' foam (which is about to be upholstered) and intend to use a 1'' topper memory foam which can be rolled up when not in use, just to give that little extra confort.

If you have a rock and roll bed, your hands are tied. You must have foam of the correct thickness so the seat and back meet when in sitting up postion. Usually 4" does the trick.

  15. 4inches does it for me ooooerrr matron

  16. Cheers everyone - looks like I will go for the 4" foam with a mattress topper for anything more than a couple of days away!!
    Thanks for all the advice
