What temperature is your central heating thermostat set at?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Zebedee, Nov 30, 2013.

  1. Ours it currently set at 16 degrees C and its rather cold.

Missus won't turn it up (and turns it back down if i do) as she's happy to sit wrapped up in a fleecey rug.
She's complaining that its costing too much to heat the house if its any higher.

    What's central heating?
This new technology is rather confusing for we poor colonials :D

  3. 18.5

From owning a number of houses how warm it gets not only depends upon the setting but also where the thermostat is situated i.e. if its just above a radiator, in a smaller room with big rad etc then its likely to switch the heating off before the house is fully up to temperature.

  4. 19.5 just right

  5. It's not on as the kids have a high temp :( but the wife cranks it up to 25 as are stat is old and crap lol

  6. Central heating is so Gay.

We've only got night storage heaters, no gas here and i live nr the town centre, it's set on low only 3 in the house, grotto admit when it does get old I wish I had something to boost it a bit more rather than a fleece blanket each but they are snugly.

  7. 21. We have a thermostat that you can move around depending on which room you are in. Problem is if we put it in the front room where we sit, it is too far away from the receiver and so the boiler doesn't come on :(

I don't know what temp our is because each radiator has its own control valve. I do know that if I come in from work the house is like a flipping sauna and my mrs is sat there in a flipping t shirt.

Causes a bit of grief when I suggest she could put a jumper on and turn the heating off.

  11. 16.... is a bit of a novelty to us this year - first time either of us have had a house with central heating - however we do have the woodburner going when we are home so the central heating hasn't kicked in too much - got to save pennies and all that - pennies make pounds! ;)

We have ours between 17.5 and 20.

Too low and you start getting damp

mine gets turned to 20 ish, trouble is there's only one thermostat in this house at the top of the stairs it's been there since before i moved in (as has all the central heating) and that's 20 years now..... it's probably the most inefficient system in the world, my roof insulation is dead thin and my double glazing is 17 years old and the seals are bad.... draughts everywhere brrrr

General CIBSE rules are 21 for general space, 16 for sleeping areas and 24 for bathrooms
