what size threads?

  1. couple of thread size questions?

what is the thread that holds the rear hub on the torsion arms at the rear? as I was going to replace with new ones.....but work my usual supplier dont seem to have them in stock ::)

one looks like it is 12mm ....but the thread is a lot finer than standard 12mm - is it a metric fine thread? UNF? or a special?

the other bolt on the rear hub is close to 16mm - but again is a finer thread - metric fine? UNF?

and last question - what is the thread size on an alternator shaft? ....looks like it could be 12mm but didnt have one to hand to try at the time

    thanks :)

  2. And the answer to the last question is M12 x 1.5 pitch

  3. FOR info only? that Bentley manual mate gives the nut/bolt size for most of the fastners on buses.(one of the "pluses" re that book)

  4. cheers dude,

I've got a Bently but didnt think of looking in there ;D

  5. Pay attention to the tensile strengths on the bolts. Likely to be 10.9s or higher.

  6.

looking at the Bently manual it says 14mm for the hub fixings ....dont think I can get them for free at my normal supplier ;D

I think I'll clean them up and just use new spring and flat washers

im pretty sure they,re not m14x1.5 i think they,re metric fine which is m14x 1.25 , not certain but 99% sure as i had to replace a set once before and i couldn't get them from local suppliers.

  10. M14 x 1.5 pitch (coarse thread).

  12. Don't forget seat belt bolts aren't actually metric - they're UNF </bolt geek off>

I think zed was offering a comparison as seatbelt bolts are 11 mm but metric fine
