Hi all, Finally got myself a VW Camper and i love it!! The body work is ok, but not having dealt with campers before what should i do first?? There is no evidence of engine or running gear work so apart from filters/oil/belt change and cleaning the breaks/new pads would should i check or change?? Thank you for your help Paul
Hi Paul. Good idea to service the engine, then you know where you are. If it's been maintained, no need to replace things just for the sake of it, something'll break soon enough. [Edit] Beat me to it Matty!
give it a good clean, you will notice anything that doesn't look or feel right just by getting to know every bit of her body
Thanks for the advice, i noticed that the fuel line from the tank is a garden hose?!? I will also get some waxoyl on it soon! To be honest i just want to drive it! Thanks again Paul
As mentioned, fuel lines in from the tank and around the engine but also the electrics within the engine bay. There are some horrors out there.
sorry to be the GLUM" one, all good advice you got from tlb usual suspects ! me , ? from my own experience , i"d either check , or have checked the elecs , and fit a quick release terminal to my batt. i was once as you are now and did run it (my bay) for the summer AND THEN found out a p/o/ had really messed up wiring in a sound system , ok i now have shiny new cables but "CORBLIMEYLUV" i sometimes still wonder how i was such a berk , (ah .... hindsight !!!>>>) as said by others , this is one fit site to be on .. welcome bruv.!
I have a 1972 pop top with th 1600 engine, how do i find out the diameter for the fuel lines?? I am in lincolnshire. Thanks
Coolair will sell you all you need and it's the proper stuff. Just don't buy fuel line from Just Kampers. I doubt garden hose has been used even if it looks like garden hose.
Thanks zed, i thought that it might not be garden hose, just that you hear all the horror stories. Will they know if it is 5 or 7 mm dia? Thanks
Yes - it's 6.4mm I think. They've recently gone to the trouble of sourcing the correct size and grade. There's a recent thread on here if you search for "Coolair fuel hose" I expect you'll find it.
