Serious question, when servicing do you prefill the new filter with fresh oil by pouring some in before installation, or just lube up the filter's seal and slap it on?
None of the tv mechanics go beyond a smear on the seal, but why not fill it first assuming the filter is fitted at a suitable angle.
I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that there were 2 votes (so far) to just slap it on, but the question was what do you do rather than what should you do.
I went for a pee and while my back was turned L.P. installed my outboard filter like this. He worked like lightning when it suited him. I'm 99% sure he did it for a laugh, we had a strange relationship, he used to call me Mr Moons for some reason and give me CD's of fantasy novels he liked to listen to as he drove engines around (which I think he enjoyed more than building them). He thought VW engines should be smelly and oily ideally...so he often said. I sent him a 1700 to recon once and it came back a 2L, he charged me £350 and delivered it 250 miles each way. "What are you complaining about, it's better?". My customer is expecting a 1700. "Don't tell them, they won't know, they'll just think it goes well".
I don't know, but if he is I doubt if he knows much about it. I and 99.9% of others were forbidden to contact him by his family who took away his phone(s) for his own good, he'd been making a lot of errors without knowing and was distraught. He did wangle one from somewhere and call me once a few months later, then that was that, I guess they found the phone. I think one or two other people who knew him better helped clear up his stuff.
