I'm *****ed then, I sold the swing out twin hob a couple of weeks ago and it don't have a sink, just a full width bed, and its registered as a Delivery Van with the DVLA, I must check my Insurance then.
Thanks for the link Wireless.. That is completely ridiculous though, as mine was originally a devon conversion, so is classed as a motor caravan, yet I have no interior in it, so my insurance is always going to be invalid from the sounds of it....
Read about Mr Pitt of Canterbury Pitt and how he was arrested for driving his camper conversion on to Hyde park in 1959. I have roughly outlined the case in one of my conversion history write ups. It's all about purchase tax as fritt says.
Mine's kitted out with sink, single hob, bed, water tank and gas bottle and according to V5 is a Motor Caravan. However the MOT Cert (she passed again yesterday) says she's a Caravelle when I would have thought she'd be classed as a Transporter!! But then again I guess the Transporter is a van or is it a bus??
He can legally do 70 on the motorway anyway. It's just dual carriageways that he would have to stick to 60.
i think when i researched this a while ago it even stated you had to have the option of water storage/useage i removed the tank and tap from my superior westalia berlin deluxe and got scared..... luckily i soon remembered it was never a panel van and i felt good.
Thanks very much for this, really helpful! Irony is I started looking into all this because I was told I need a sink! There is no mention of a sink in there!!
Dont suppose you know the registration of it do you?,'cos the bloke over the road says he owns that one.
V5 says mine is a Motor Caravan. That's what it is wether it's got a cooker, or not, a bed, or not or a ******* pot, or not. ***** EM
Shopping around for insurance when I first got my van (motor caravan on V5), I was told by one insurer that to qualify for 'vintage' or 'classic' rates, it should NOT have a cooker! Such fun
