What colour is my S.A. Bay ?????????

  1. Hi Guys,

I have a S.A. CKD 1973 Kombi, which I recently imported into the UK. It is in excellent condition and has never been welded. I need to get some rough patches of paint sorted and this is where I come unstuck !!!! Can anyone help with the colour?

I know S.A VW didn't follow the usual colour production runs and did their own thing, all suggestion greatly appreciated.

  2. my guess is its been resprayed. I have a 1974 CKD. VW hold details on its chassis number but that's it. Other M-Code details etc on mine are not recognised as the format is different. If you have a standard type m-plate then you might have better luck than me.

Good luck when you come to change parts over - don't go by year, use the old part number for reference - these CKD are parts bin b'stard hybrids.

If anyone ever tries to tell you its not a 'proper bay' give them the middle finger and swear profusely at them, then point out how solid it is
    :)

  3. Cheers Joker,

    Thanks for the reply :)

Well she's RHD and has a VW Birth Cert - so good enough for me lol.

I'll remember your words tho when i'm driving about and they are welding lol.

I've been really surprised so far, everything I have touched has been right for the year, with the exception of the rear number plate lamp !!!!

It does appear to be the original colour - see the below picture where you can see the original primer coming though.

Appears to be the same colour as this S.A Westy - currently for sale

Thanks for everyones help - it's sooo much easier to own a classic VW nowadays than it was in the late 80's / early 90's when I was last involved.
