A friend of mineI went to school with, was has been a copper ever since we left. He works for the met in London.
He says that there are a lot more deaths/suicides/ bodies found that are never ‘news’.
You think that just one or two people die each day?

  3. The national media is trying to be social media. Click bait makes money as they see it. At least regional and local media still reports news worthy stories

  5. I find i Watch less and less media these days. I’m not interested in the narratives they need to continuously spin to try to fill 24 hour rolling news. I’m sure that years ago when you just had a morning, lunchtime and evening news, it was a lot less agenda driven and a lot more news driven.

I don’t need some twenty year old from the guardian giving me their opinion on how the world should be every thirty minutes. A lot of people on here own vehicles older than most of the contributors I see spouting carp during the paper reviews on sky.

I’ve pretty much switched it all off. The day I care about any of Kay Burleys opinions is the day I will disappear up my own backside.

Vile agitators the lot of them.

the ironic part is that the winner actually doesnt win anything , theres no prize for winning , true theres a fee for doing the show but thats not a "prize"

I’d agree with this. I tend not to engage with the mass media, my original post was based on having done so. It is now virtually impossible to read or see non partisan good ( or bad ) news. Will just have to ignore or accept it as it ain’t going to get better.

I think there are still trustworthy news sources available, both in print, online and on the telebox and wireless. No source is perfect, it’s be daft to pretend otherwise, but they are out there

Sadly a lot of the local newspapers are part of Reach plc, owners of the Daily Express amongst others. They have sacked a lot of local journalists and use a central hub to pad out the local papers with irrelevant trash.

  11. As someone who sits on the fence so much when it comes to politics its a wonder I dont have splinters in my arse, Im increasingly frustrated with the fact the media in this country feel they should create the news rather than report it. They did for Jeremy Corbyn. They did for Boris. They were lording Mick Lynch a few weeks back, but they'll be turning on him soon enough when one of the little media darlings cant get home from the xmas party. Youve only got to look at the shambles that the covid briefings descended into, through stupid questioning and petty points scoring against people from the NHS who were just trying to keep us informed. Beth Rigby was a particular embarrassment.

All the media wish to do in this country is stir up trouble and create unrest, then complain there's division in the country. IMHO most of the people who work in mainstream media outlets are scumbags. As my mate says of Jeremey Vine "If this was wartime hed have been shot as a traitor by now"

They are all being very polite and nice about Starmer and Rayner at the moment, cos they want a new government, they can all congratulate themselves about getting the tories out. Then give it six months and theyll start the whole process again against labour. Not giving them a chance to actually achieve anything before they try to tear them down to fill the news channels.

Jeremy Vine is not a journalist though is he, certainly not one worthy of the name. We can all think of similar presenters, they are not all like that though and to pretend otherwise is a bit daft really.

Not sure what treachery he’s done to deserve being shot though….. I’m not a fan but all the same :D

  13. He uses his platform to peddle his particular political viewpoints in the same way as James OBrian on LBC or Farage on GB News, or Burley on Sky. They might not be journalists in the true sense, thats half the problem. They seek to create and mould the news agenda instead of honestly reporting on it.

What particular political viewpoint is Jeremy Vine peddling? You’ll have to remind me cos I don’t think it’s that obvious from his show.

  17. I will remind you of that when they turn on striking nurses. Or a year into the next Labour government when the media get bored of Starmer and decide to try to derail him just for the sheer devilment of it and to fill a few column inches. Lets not forget that Burley and Rigby were both suspended by Sky for breaking lockdown rules and going to an actual party, not a bloody birthday cake in an office, and actual out on the town pee up. Then came back from their suspensions to call for Borris's head over lockdown breaches.

Its about time that people in this country realised just with a poisonous boil the media in this country has become. They've spent months complaining about the cost of living crisis in this country and how terrible it is that people have to us foodbanks, now watch them turn on the strikers and the Union bosses when those same people decide to do something about it.

Yes yes we get that, but you were talking about Jeremy Vine peddling a particular political viewpoint. What, how, when?

Good points. But Beth Rigby and her colleague were not rule makers, accepted their “ guilt” and the consequences. No 10 , ( if we are to believe the media ) is refusing to produce information required from them in order to carry out the process of the investigation. Whatever our views are this state of affairs is incredibly damaging to the whole institution of government. The recent jungle nonsense merely exacerbates the shambolic mess we are in.
