    Bump for Dubious.

  3. We need to find that German guy who goes to VanFest every year, the one I mentioned in the other thread. He sells everything you're after. I've tried Google, everything and I can't find him anywhere. When searcing I came across a related thread in Vzi, or something like that, someone asking the same question. But the link didn't take me to the German bloke I'm on about. Seeing as his stall is always right opposite Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers, maybe if you gave them a ring they'd know how to get in touch with the bloke.

Well done El. Get in touch with him DUBious, I'm sure he'll have what you're looking for.

  11. I think it is either European cherry of some sort, or pitch pine.

It is hard to say as the species are so similar.

    Check here: http://www.john-boddy-timber.ltd.uk/species_az.htm

failing that, go to your local kitchen suppliers and see if they have a samples swatch for their veneered end panels, and you may even be able to find it there. Just a possibility.

  12. Hey DUBious -- did you sort this out mate?

    thanks

  13. Hi guys, i have tried several samples of veneer to match in the original westy one, but there is nothing on the market that gives you an exact match.
it is a cherry or walnut veneer, you can get close matches but not perfect.
this is the place to get your veneer to match, its called formica, basically its a compressed paper with various finishes, heres the link:
    http://www.formica.co.uk/publish/site/eu/uk/en/home/collection/woodgrains.html
you can also request up to eight samples from them which turn up in a couple of days.

if anyone needs more info on fitting this product etc just give me a shout, always happy to help.

  14. A very close and cheap match is Golden Walnut fablon from Homebase - that on top of 4mm ply and you can hardly tell the difference

  15. Only just noticed this as I rarely stray from the tech section, but I tried several years back to get some Formica to fix my Westy. In America restorers used to use Colonial Cherry, code 117-54, but this doesn't seem to have been made for some time. I even tried Formica UK but no luck.

  16. While we're on the subject- There is a product by a company called Con-Tact that is a very near match. Sadly, it is just a roll of thin vinyl shelf and drawer liner, but it is good quality and does very nicely in a pinch.
I have done the inside panels of my cargo door and rear hatch with it. The difference is virtually undetectable.
I also did the underside of my table and even covered my iPod dock with it. The once obnoxious black/silver dock now blends in beautifully.
It's perfect for temporary touch-ups, door panels, and covering accessories. Might also be feasible to hide a tiny chipped corner rather than recovering the entire cabinet.
The best part is it's only about $4 for a huge roll.
That's "Con-Tact" shelf liner and the proper color is cherry. It is sold at Sears and K-Mart as well as online.
(Con-Tact is a subsidiary of another company called Frittich or Frottage or some such, if that helps. ;) )
