Had this coolbox for a while now with a view to refurb with westy veneer but the veneer went on another job so here it is in all its glory (or not)

Structurally it is excellent, and the hinges are as new, the edge trim is as new, the frame work is solid. Actual coolbox is in excellent condition, the seal is immaculate although signs of mould now but easily remedied. Slight yellowing of inside but could probably cillit bang that away. The underside of the lids is clean and clear of damage but the tops have slight damage and glue. Nothing that cant be fixed.

Pics below. £40 collected. postage is about a million quid if you want it.

  4. PSG - sorry to hijack the thread a little as I am not interested in the cool box, but I am interested in which veneer you have gone for to match the Westy veneer and how you may have gone about removing old veneer and fixing new ?
    Again, apologies for the hijack.

i am a cabinet maker and have a workshop here in ashford so am fully equipped for all the necessary evils of removing veneers. It can be easy if it is water damage and thus blown the bond, but usually a good bit of heat ie an iron and a spatchelor will do the trick. As for reapplication, contact adhesive or animal hyde glue will usually do. titebond II is a readily available glue that is just as good as you may need. the bendfits to contact adhesive is the instant bond which is vital to securing the veneer in place. To flatten down, you work it along from one side to the other and any bubbles should thus be avoided.

    Lofty likes this.
  6. Thanks for this. Could I trouble you for the veneer you used on the Westy furniture. I'm assuming it was some form of Cherry ?
