  1. ... with plaid top and box big enough to hold an LP record... for my 79 berlin

happy to pay a good price for a good original one...

...they seem to be like hen's teeth!

    thanks!

  2. We just recently bought one from Franks Busparts for our Helsinki - he gets hold of them now and again and if you email him he will let you know when he finds one. He can recover them in the plaid of your choice too - although we did our own with a staple gun!

  3. Build your own! Bit of ply from B & Q, a long brass hinge, and some foam from Dunelm - I covered mine in some westy looking fablon and you would hardly know the difference! I would put a pic up but haven't got one to hand...

  4. Do you mean Like this ? Large or small

  5. Small one is the normal one, I got one from eBay, cost me 130 quid!!!

  6. I'm planning on making one as all the ones i've seen for sale have gone for well over £100 and no way I can justify that.

If someone out there could let me know the dimensions of the original ones that would be really appreciated. Am looking to make the smaller one but dimensions for both sizes would be good in case i have enough formica left over to make both!

If it turns out well then I might be pursuaded to make one for someone else too - what colour plaid are you after Alex?

    Thanks.

  7. I am looking as well :D

  8. I'm after a green plaid one... though clashing plaid I can live with!
...and I can't find the dimensions anywhere...
if you want to make some peasoup we can collaborate!
my LPs are getting dog eared....

  9. Have been given the dimensions and lots of reference pictures by Greenwesty. Have some slightly faded but very useable original green plaid material, have some plywood, and have some correct width brass hinges on order. So, nearly all setup to have a go at making a couple.

Only thing I don't have is correct westfalia colour/pattern formica/laminate. It's fine for mine as I'm in the process of re-doing all my formica anyway and so have enough of my choice of replacement formica to match mine, but probably best I leave the other one I make in nicely sanded plywood for you to wax/stain/cover in laminate as you please.

Might be a week or two before I get to try making one as am still recovering from my back going last weekend and don't want to stress it too quickly!

    Will keep you posted!

    Nick.

  10. well done nick! do you know the internal dimensions of the small one?
    sanded ply idea is good...
    alex

  11. The outer dimensions I've been given are: 300mm(w) x 330mm(d) x 365mm(h - to top of wood) or 410mm (h - to top of seat)
The front and back are 15mm ply, and the sides 12mm ply, plus 1mm of laminate on each side and so in theory the inside would be 274 x 298mm, therefore I don't think a proper standard size one would "quite" fit LPs.
Also, I haven't found 15mm ply at any of my local suppliers and so I'm going to use 18mm and so if keeping correct out dimensions it would a little smaller in size.
However, could very easily make it a centimetre or so longer so that your LPs do fit )
    Nick...

  12. nick, the sweet spot for me would be the standard height (365) and width (300, internal 274) but a little more depth (eg 352mm outer, 320mm inner. that would mean a good width of snug records that still fits between the seats... have just installed a technics SL-10 that plays at any angle and works on 12v... though driving does challenge it a bit....
