Welding safety advice needed

  1. Extending rock and roll bed and need to weld bed clip on to bulk head. Anyone know if I'm in danger of being too close to petrol tank???

  2. If it's the slopey bit, I'd screw the bracket on. The fuel tank is right behind the panel.

  5. Thanks chaps, van at my mates. He's a fab welder but doesn't do auto welding. Today when we took the bed clip off to move over we sort of ripped the bulk head and got a look behind. I reckon the petrol tank is 20-30 mm ( if it is the petrol tank) behind this panel. What does anyone reckon about welding this close to the tank?

    the answer is

there is an amount of risk associated with welding near a petrol tank. its far from ideal and its a possibility you could set fire to your van. its a question of remove the engine and tank to be 100% sure or hope your lucky . its you call though

  8. I think the consensus is: we wouldn't :)

  9. if you ripped the bulkhead can you get a wet rag down?

I would`nt think twice about not welding there...

do not take the tank out ,if you are that worried fill it with water.. 8)

  10. Spoke to me man and he's gonna go for it with a couple of spot welds. Couldn't get a wet rag down there as rip was only couple of mm. I'll let you know how we get on, thanks for all advice !!
