I just fitted 40 IDFs last weekend and its going for a tune on a rolling road this week (hopefully). I went for 28mm vents and associated set up from Eurocarb. Will share the specs from road pre-fitted (bolted on after a clean out of the box) vs after tuning. Everything else stock as far as i know. But I also treated myself to a 30mm venturi upgrade for down the line.
Looks just the job and keeps it simple, regarding CSP bell crank, I have taken a look on the machine 7 website and is the correct linkage the one labelled for porsche fanshroud @ £97.15? Thanks, Harry
Things to note: - Eurocarb were very good about giving advice. Not pushy and very helpful on advising. - The 40 IDF are very nice and with a new exhaust which you have will give good engine noise. Mine is standard and already sounds throatier. - Manifold nuts were tricky to fit as 'nuts to manifold' (oooh, er!) gap didn't give clearance to get socket on. - Build the whole linkage off the van. Tricky bits so nice clean area to build. - Replace all your fuel lines. You will need a filter so get a fuel filter regulator too. IDFs have 8mm barbs and tank has 6mm barb so Filter King does the job and looks smart. Just spend your time figuring it all out then get it on the van. - Sent from my Redmi Note 7 using Tapatalk
This one: https://www.csp-shop.com/en/brand-shops/bellcrank-linkage-csp-129-941-400-18236c.html?cache=1595187410 Which I think is this on Machine7: https://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=415
The return spring is p/n 129 881 100a https://www.dellorto.co.uk/shop/vw-...rts/bellcrank-return-spring-csp-129-881-100a/
I noticed the CSP bellcrank didn't have a return spring in the pack. Do you reckon they're necessary? If you have a pedal spring at the front and carb throttle spindle return springs is that enough?
Mine not enough with spindle spring, csp spring and pedal spring..... time to investigate next hurdle... On manifold nuts..get a set of narrow ones make mounting them so much easier Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
The pedal spring doesn’t pull the throttle cable towards the carbs and the spindle return springs are probably not strong enough to reliably return the spindles to the stops but the CSP linkage spring should be, if it isn’t there is something wrong. Pedal spring pulls the pedal, linkage spring pulls the cable, spindle springs pull the spindles.
Whats the best set up for a sprung throttle on a CB linkage set up? My accelerator cable has a new spring but I may add another spring somewhere in the system - likely in the engine bay.
Nice explanation, thank you. I'm not having a problem with throttle return but the CSP bellcrank didn't come with a spring, it rotates freely. I'm all for belt and braces so will probably get one for a rainy day job.
Where do you have the new spring for the accelerator cable? If you have a Type 4 with the crossbar linkage a standard carb throttle return spring should fit. There is a hole in the engine bay ‘roof’, hook one end of the spring in the hole and the other end in the cable nipple in the linkage.
It’s not really belt and braces; I know the CSP bellcrank doesn’t come with a return spring but it should – it’s the spring that pulls the throttle cable towards the carbs.
The crankcase breather should be connected to the air filter; that little filter on the breather tower does nothing but fill with oil and make a mess. The fuel tank breather should go to the other air filter.
