Weber carb query

  1. How's it going. I have managed to get my hands on a Weber 32/36 progressive carb for my 1600 camper. My problem is that its a manual choke and not electric as per the original solex.

Can you advise if I'm wasting my time with this carb or can they operate ok without the need for the manual choke to be operational.

    Cheers

  2. Why do you want to replace the standard carb?

  3. It's fooked. The rear stud keeps coming out creating airleaks and that's with it being coiled at some stage already. Plus the chokes sticking, which I know I can fix but I have the weber now which I thought I would give a go.

If it's stripped replace the stud with a nut and bolt. ;) And fix the choke.

  5. Lets pretend I dont have a solex carb, has anybody any experience with the weber 32/36 progressive whith manual choke. :)

Have you got the correct inlet manifold for it?

  7. yeah, came with the carb, had it checked over and it seems to be a low mileage carb. had the jets changed also.

cool - be careful though, when we fitted the 32/36 to our 1641, the bend in the throttle cable was quite severe so we had to remodel the linkeage slightly!

  9. grand job, was yours manual or electric choke

It should be fine. The only thing you may have to fettle is the throttle linkage - the only one I've had hands on wasn't operating the second choke at all. I had to extend the bracket under the cab floor to pull more cable. It went quite a bit faster after that.

ours was an empi linkeage - the angle was quite steep and the cable rubbed on the top of the cable guide passing through the fanhousing - ultimately it would have chaffed something.

I cant find any images at the moment, I'll have a look later n see what Ive got!

    Ours was electric choke

  13. Im running a 2 litre with the same carb. Manual choke is good if you can source a cable for it. Mine broke and I had to convert to electric. Fine in summer but comes off to soon when its cold. The issue with these is carb icing due to the length of the unheated inlet manifolds. Heater are available I believe (IMDU) and there are some mods you can do to plumb in a pre-heat to use warm air for the inlet as the other issue is that the inlte can condensate on the manifold. Spose secret is to use a heater and insulate the manifolds.

Can mail you some bumph (have some somewhere) if you message me your email. For leccy choke and linkage kits try Kingfisher.
