Just been trying to fit the carb to Gusbus to measure the fuel lines etc and have the following problem.

Weber 32/36 DFAV Carb on a 1641 Type 2 motor

It will sit on the inlet manifold spot on without the electric choke mechanism fitted, all is good.

When we fit the choke body, it is about 25mm short of sitting correctly as the choke fouls on the fanshroud (there is a recess but this stops the carb, 25mm of sitting correctly.

Looking at the inlet manifold etc, there is no room for adjustment of this.

Anyone out there using a similar carb & how did you get round this issue?

    K+ for a good solution

  2. Is there no way to make a spacer plate for the choke bit ?
    Post a pic may help

  3. Are you trying to fit it to the stock manifold?

Are you sure you have the inlet manifold bracket attached right , the bar up the back of the manifold going to the twinport engine intakes.

The bar is the right length to go between an alternator style fuel pump bolt at the back of the engine and the underside of the [glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300]flange[/glow][/glow] holding on the carb.
The [glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300]flange[/glow][/glow] should be level under the carb. To be 25 ,mm out means something else is wrong...

On mine the recess is just right so I dinged it about 3mm to make sure the choke tag clears the metal with space for a shrouded spade connector.

Now the weather is warm you wont notice the lurching and bogging so much. Keeping the stock oil bath filter with preheat and getting an adaptor on the top of the carb to take the warm air from the filter makes quite a difference. EMPI sell an adaptor that fits the top of the carb for this but it looks a bit too tall to get a hose on in a bus. I made one out of pvc pipe as a prototype then sheet aluminum before realising I could have bought a diecast instrument box for electronics.

Its annoying that the kit sold here is the basic cheap one good for SoCal summers.

^ the manifold bracket sits as it should and sits level, as per the bends preformed out of the box (brand new carb and manifold setup) from VWH.

not sure what could be out tbh - I do have a plan...I have a pair of brand new Solex 34's for the westy, get a T1 inlet manifold and linkeage set up and fit these instead!
